Number of magazines trashed by Publishers

This was in the "Dumbed Down Awake!" thread:

Sure enough, the figure represents the number of magazines printed, not circulated.
It makes me wonder if the average magazine placements recorded in the KM each month is actually magazines placed or the number of magazines printed, or shipped out of Bethel.

Would anybody who has access to JW literature care to compare (and calculate) numbers for a specific year? Perhaps we can get an idea of how many magazines are being thrown out by the publishers alone.

Toward the end of our "JW Career"; we would pick up our magazine order (which had dwindled to maybe 6 mags) and stash them in a big pile in the basement, then transfer that pile into the garage and then that pile into the garbage can.

I know for sure that we threw out more magazines than we ever "placed" or gave away.

So many poor trees sacrificed for the garbage gods.

I place about four of the thirteen magazines I get each month. Sometimes not that many.

i know a young ms who was magazine servant way back when we used to have to pay for them..remember that....there was a pioneer rate but the mag department always ran at a loss because any left over mags were charged to publisher rates...except his..he was always in credit and none of the elders could work it out and would question him and he would show them the figures...turns out he had devised a scheme whereby any leftover mags were put through as pioneer rate and were covered by mags already payed for at pub rate..or something..got away with it for years till one day he was caught burning a huge stash of mags round the back of the kh...he still went on to become a co

Their magazine order was something of a status symbol among the pioneers in the congregations I attended. When I pioneered, I always got a big order and wound up with extra mags. They eventually found their way into the trash. (There are only so many laundry mats!)

As a family we got about about 30 mags between us to place and as a cute 7 year old I remember it was a doddle to place mags and we often got given sweeties and fruit too.

I also remember when I got to about 14 or 15 and I wasnt quite so cute and how jealous I was that my cute little sisters could report far more placements than me, unless the door was answered by a man....

The best afternons were return visit afternoons, I used to be ecstatic when I placed mags at a door 8 or 9 miles away in a remote village because I knew we could count the time going back for the RV.

We rarely had enough watchtowers left for the sunday study and I think my mum was secretly proud touting around the hall on a Thursday asking if anyone had any spares for us to use.

We also had midweek arrangements where old mags were collected up from those who hadnt placed any at the tuesday book study and then taken out and given away to any interested householders, quite successfully as most householders were grateful to take a freebie and escape or so they thought until we turned up two or three weeks later with our rehearsed RV presentation - "Ihopeyouenjoyed the lastmagazinesibroughtyou and since you have a lovely garden/adog/beautifulhome/birdI thoughtyoumaybeinterestedinthearticleinourlatestcopyoftheawakewhichtalksaboutjustthat......anditsforasmallcontributionof25p"

The trunk of my car would get stacks of old WT and Awakes and I would either place them in laundrymats or give them to the pioneers, they'd take anything off my hands!

Does anyone know if the Watchtower Society recycles and if so, how much paper content is recycled?
