It' legal in Canada right now to download MP3s, but they might legislate against it. If you're in the US, you might just want to buy a CD. In fact, buy a CD anyways, can't hurt.
You could download a peer-to-peer file sharing program such as Limewire ... but technically you may be violating certain copyright laws by using it to download copyrighted audio and video & other files without paying the owners of those copyrights.
Usnet has lots of free music. Alot is totally legal.
Try searching for Usenetmonster + you get a free copy of Newsrover client. It makes finding the porn music and downloading really simple.
If you quote my ref- dvdburn2, I might get some free gigs too. Yep you can earn referal Gigs, I am having a job using mine up. The lowest package, of which I am on costs $5 a month. Have a look anyway.

This site is 100% legal, with the permission of the copywrite holders. Most of the music is 'hippy' stuff, but it's all good. Bluegrass, zydeco, and good old school jam. They even offer free software to play or burn the .shn file format that it comes packed in.
Legal AND free? Sorry, that doesn't exist. Unless you're talking about old music where its copyright has expired.
And I don't think MP3s will *ever* be blessed by the RIAA. They lack copy protection/digital rights management. Usually the songs you buy are in some other format that prevents you from freely copying the files around to other computers.
Yes, you can download free MP3s ... not ones that major labels own though, for those you either have to pay or are breaking the law.
There are some very cheap sites though that are much frendlier on the pocket than iTunes and the like.
See: http://www.mp3search.ru/ ($0.10 per song)
Some people search for songs on Google. It's hit and miss. For your search string, type (1) a distinctive word from the artist name or song title, (2) the last word from the song title + .mp3 (e.g. "love.mp3" for "Whole Lotta Love") with quote marks around it, and (3) "index+of" with quote marks (be sure to have the +). If that doesn't work, get rid of the "index+of" and add "-winamp -playlist -free" (without quote marks) into the search string.
Also try baidu.com. It has an mp3 search.
Thank you for all your replys. I'll probaly check out redhen's suggestion only because I like old stuff.
Anyone remember when nobody complianed when we taped songs off the radio with cassettes and copied cassetes that other friends bought? I don't understand what the difference is. Nobody got sued by artists for doing it! Artists were actaully HAPPY to hear that their talent was so widely spread and counted that for good ratings.
