not entirely true...if a kh was to be needed for a relief campaign or commandeered by the military this would be done willingly and not under duress...its somewhere in the elders manual..i shoulda kept mine.....they'll be setting up polling booths next

WTS has said that if a brother or sister has a drinking problem that it would not be wrong to get help from AA if that is what it takes.

Fairmind, that is the official statement.

Translation: But Brother Respected and Sister Follows the Rules were able to do it with just prayer, attending all five (KH) meetings, and spending more time in the ministry, relying more on Jehovah.

Translation: Please go to AA so we don't have to spend any time or energy helping you at the KH except to ask if you are going to your AA meetings. Then the subject never comes up again. Their responsibility is done.

I have heard elders tell people not to go to AA meetings because they are a religious group, that there is the danger of bad association, and what can they give them that the elders can't.

What AA provides that the KH/elders do not:

Individual sponsors: people who are recovering alcoholics who know what the pitfalls are and the standard alcoholic 'excuses' who

are willing to come to your aid 24 hours a day if you call and stay with you until you are over the bad patch

Meetings around the clock so you can go to 4 or 5 a day if necessary

The other posters are right--that article is probably erroneous. Though anything is possible, it's just not likely that the cong would allow a KH to be used for an AA meeting.

My local group, back when I belonged, was against AA. Alcoholics who were trying to recover were discouraged from accepting any help outside the b0rg. I remember one guy who was court-ordered to attend AA and he was not allowed to have privileges in the cong long after his "wayward" behavior had ended....because he was attending AA, which was a "bad example" to others....it was considered bad because his attendance made it seem as though it was ok to need help outside the b0rg, and ya know, some AA groups say the Lord's Prayer after their meetings (oh, the horror).

What AA provides that the KH/elders do not:

I remember when my grandmother got checked into rehab, there were some snide comments.... From the brothers no less!!!....Egad, No!

But they didn't get her in trouble for that. She had to sit through their reproof session for being a drunkard.

It reminds me of their approach to depression in the early 90's....don't take mind altering drugs...just go to meetings that'll cure ya!
