I may be getting mixed up but wasn't he in the film "Whn the wind blows?" (or something similar). A B/W film about a group of kids who find an escaped convict in a barn and think he's Jesus?

It has a classic line by some young lancashire lad: "That 'aint Jeesus, it's just a fella' "

I think his daughter, Hailey Mills, was in it as well.

    Goodbye John

He was a fine actor and a real gent on and off screen. I always thought he was one of a handful of outstanding actors that made acting not look like acting, a real natural. I really hope the beeb show some of his old movies like Hobson's Choice (with the brilliant Charles Laughton and a very young and foxy Prunella Scales from Fawlty Towers), Ryan's daughter and Great Expectations.

The film you're thinking of Simon was Whistle Down The Wind. It did star Hayley Mills but not John Mills, the male lead fella was Alan Bates, another great actor imo. The rest of the cast of kids were normal children from a village in Lancashire and not actors. It's an absolute classic and is funny and poignant in equal measure.

Amazing actor....If i ever was about when his films were on I would always take the time to watch em....wasnt he in a film called 'bottoms up' about a school mutiny of some sort?....it was a great film i seem to remember and not sure whether he was in it....anyone have any ideas?

Hobsons Choice was a great film...remember watching that at Christmas one year...strangely enough one of the only few fond memories of christmas as a JW!
