I only followed the WTS rules if I was around other witnesses.

Traffic rules, dont blow thru red lights after yellows, will make right turn on red, depending on the hour, or if its on a weekend. Speed limits, I mostly pay them no mind, though I don't go crazy with it, 25mph is 40, 55 mph is 65-70.

Rules in the organization, I had problems with a few of them, one was the rule that forbid a brother and a sister, even if she was an older sister, to be in the same enclosed space with each other. I was painting her house and she was 60+ years old, I was 30 something, can you imagine some potential illicit activity happening from that situation?

We were all a bunch of tight asses.

No I wasn't. I am a little contrary by nature and a non-conformist. Naturally I was always on that famous s-list ha. ha. I felt I made enough concessions and there was just so much I would follow. I learned to keep my mouth shut though.

Rules are great, especially when they're made by me and followed by everyone else.

I was selective about which rules I followed as a JW. I generally tried to follow the course of common sense. If elders tried to "counsel" me or "readjust my thinking" I'd hear them out, but most of the time I'd disregard what they said because it was either not based on the scriptures or made no sense.

Most of us don't want to be told what to do. Duh.

I was "raised" in the "truth" as the expression goes, so following ALL the rules/regulations/suggestions just seemed perfectly normal and natural to me. Thought I was really making you know who happy with my being such an obedient robot, er Witness. So I tried my very, very best to do everything "just so".

Now that I have left, that business of following the rules is just one of many issues that still cause me great regret over all the wasted years.

Of course some of the Witness "way of life" I still follow (don't cheat/lie/steal/commit murder, etc), but I think Min's question was really directed at that sort of stuff...

When you were in the congregtion, did you easily "follow the direction of the loving shepherds"?

I never found any loving shepherds to follow.

Yes I was super careful especially coz my dad was an elder. The smallest thing I would do he would always some how find out about it. It wasnt worth the pain es
