$3,384. Of course, I get all my money from a family trust, not a job.
Must be nice to have a trust. Is it subject to the vagaries of the stock market or equivalent. We have a pension and our savings/investments. We won't starve but health care is always an issue in the US. Never thought I would have to worry about it when I was a younger JW. Actually, when any of us were younger we never thought about the health issues that may face us now.
In comparison to other countries, I feel I am still well off. When I read about people surving on $500 a year, I can't even imagine.

What I meant to say was my income is from a trust, but its a family one, not mine.
Canada's social insurance, I think, works like this: You fork over a lot of money, and they invest it and make money. Our country's pension plan has been doing extremely well, actually, and the government collects and makes more money from the pension plan than they give out in pensions.
Blondie, I have spent a long time looking at this. The site you gave, sorry it's a scam. It's run by the Dem.'s in the Senate, no matter what you put in, it will be a loss.
Try this site:

This site gives information on how the estimate is arrived at. The other site gives "assumptions", simply a scare tactic to fool people and pit them against the plan.
The_class...even that sounds like a good plan. Right now in the US, you fork over tons of money then it is in turn spent and givin' away and you have a "promise" of at least some of it back when you retire.
I wouldn't call it a democratic scam, since not all Republicans are behind Bush's plan. I hope this doesn't end up being a Democrat-bad, Republican=good thread.
If anyone has a totally unbiased politically site that analyzes the pros and cons, that would be nice.

Blondie, I hope as well and that is not my intention. Very true many on both sides are against any privatization, for pretty obvious reasons. The current Social Security system is a major source of income for the Government most of which is not used for the intended purpose. If we are in control of our money they are not, simply put. This poses problem for both sides Dem's and Rep's. But the thing is, why are citizens against it? It would be a totally voluntary program, we don?t have to do it if we don?t want. I want the chance to decide for myself.
It's too late for me to worry about it. The current SS will probably last as long as I do anyway. I can survive if something doesn't change for the worse in my life.

If Congress can have it why can't we. We must be too stupid. I think the government is afraid we might do better with out them. I prefer to make my way thru with the government out of my pocket.
ACK!!!! I would loose 25%
