With the election coming up, do you think our Tone deserves another crack of the whip? A 3rd term?

How is he viewed abroad by other posters here?

Personally, I will vote for Labour again and would be happy to see him in a 3rd term.

    What are your views?

He's neither a hero or a villain. He's just another politician willing to do or say anything to keep his job and make sure his political allies have juicy political/civil service posts.

I couldn't understand why he was so popular in 97, and I can't really understand why he's as unpopular as he is now. My personal opinion - he's no saint, but he's no devil either. He's like a lot of bosses I've had, ok but nothing spectacular.

If he does get in, I shan't be heartbroken, but I won't be jumping for joy either. I don't like new labour's style of government, never have done. Mind you, I didn't like old labour, old tory, new tory, and I sometimes suspect that I only vote Lib Dem (usually) because I've not heard about all their bad bits yet, and I'm unlikely to find them out until they're in power, which is unlikely.

I thought they fought a pretty shitty campaign in 1997, summed up by "things can only get better", I mean what a load of s""te, as if a valid political campaign strategy is to say "vote for us, we can't be any worse than the last lot!" The campaign literature I've had through my door from the labour party has all been "don't go back to the Tories" type stuff. They're still fighting the 1997 campaign in this constituency, "vote for us, because we're not them", and they've been in power for the last 8 years! Now I hated the Tories as much as the next man, but new labour have got the Tories to thank for the strong economy they inherited from Ken Clarke.

Rant over! I'm sure he'll get back in and I'm sure it'll be ok on the whole, and I'm sure my life will poddle on much the same as it would have done whoever got in.

    ig.

Tony seems genuine!...................but in the end........they have to balance the books. What seems a good plan of attack one year might have to be change later on.

Watching from the US I see Tony Blair and Michael Howard playing politics as usual trying to pull the wool over the eyes of voters.

Charles Kennedy is honestly speaking to the voters. He is not telling voters what they want to hear, but what they need to hear.

Can you be more specific Simon? I'm not clear on your viewpoint of him.

I think you might just be in for another 5 year wait next week Simon to be rid of him. Try not to get too upset though.
