They won't be dancing around the maypole!
Now I don't know why they won't be doing this..matter of fact I've never read about maypole dancing being verboten..but don't you just know it's a no-no?

Those pagans. So nasty.
Theres an article in a recent magazine about that... It tied it into union uprisings and Labor day here in the USA. Dumb.
I was under the impression it was a fertility dance and that was why JW's don't participate??? But then again, I heard this a looooooong time ago when I was in school, so, I may have gotten it mixed with something else they don't celebrate, you know, they don't celebrate ANYTHING!!

I was also taught that it was a fertility dance and that the maypole was a phallic symbol.....ive taken a good long look at the maypole and i just cant see it somehow.
Then again only the dubs would suggest that people were dancing round a penis wouldnt they... i mean what else could it be???
Better throw out the cat scratching post...its long and straight...it must be a pagan phallic symbol!!!
Rent the movie "The Wicker Man". An entire population of unapologetic pagans. The Maypole is definitely a penis in their version....
Not much maypole dancing by non-dubs around here either.
Do they dance around the maypole in the UK?
Wow, we used to do that in grade school ......I always thought it had to do with the flowers blooming, with---- Spring coming on Like April Showers Bring May Flowers.......It was fun when we were kids.......It looked just like that pic, except we were hot babes!!!

Actually, I think that is right! It is about fertility rities, and that's the excuse they had for not being able to do it in a school spring festival. Could be Celtic (I think).
I always thought it looks like fun! Especially here, where spring is such a big deal. Mayday trees aren't blooming yet, though (forsythia). They are late this year ...

I find it interesting that almost everything that the Witlesses mock as 'pagan' is always labeled so because it's a fertility right, a god/godess of fertility, or whatever. In this case, they're right.
However, one of my statues of Kuan Yin I've had since I was 14. Bought with my own allowance. When I brought it home, I was allowed to keep it, but my mom told me not to keep it near my bed because it was a goddess of fertility! (As if "she" could make me pregnant). In reality Kuan Yin is the Goddess of compassion. Very comparable to the Virgin Mary of Catholicism.
