The Watchtower's plan to build a big new complex in Brooklyn is a money making scheme.
They sell off valuable real estate for apartments and condos along Columbia Heights ($)
They use donated materials and labor to build a complex on land they already own.
They call for donations in the Kingdom Ministry. This plan could be very profitable.

I remember several COs telling me point blank in the late 1990's that the Society actually gets MORE donations from the 3rd world brothers than they do from the richer 1st world countries. These were in private conversations over dinner, so it wasn't like they were on stage tying to shame the flock into giving more.
I have no additional info, so I don't know one way or the other, or if things have changed since then.
They are probably selling some property to cash in on the insane price of real estate. So they can go buy some more defense stocks.
