Just curious..now that you're an exJW, do you think that the world is a good place or an evil place to be?

Or are you screwed up about asylum seekers and other perceived threats to your security?

I tend to always err towards optimism generally. I feel that the world is a great place to be. I think that too many folk, and I include JW's in this, fall into the moral panic trap. http://psychcentral.com/psypsych/Moral_panic

Life is good..it's great to just be alive..why worry?

    Or am I being naive?

I dont buy into such moral panic trap. It think its ludicrous, racist and encourages violence and "mob mentality."

    the world is fabulous!!

    anyone remember this ugly incident?

Well, I believe that is true in a way and all very well and good if you aren't suffering from extreme poverty or living in a war zone.

I think the experience of life and being conscious is beautiful, aside from that, the world I see through the news & media outlets looks pretty screwed up to me.

1000s starving, 1000s dying in war, violence on our streets, disgusting diseases spreading, natural disasters - you know what I mean

I try to balance this by walking in the park, taking in the air, listening to nature and in a way wrap a bandage around the fear & hurt I feel within my heart.

But, that bandage is only temporary and soon I see the blood pressing through the fibres again.

While it is great to be alive I am very well aware of the danger in the world around me. I take nothing for granted and don't let my guard down when I am in public. But I also refrain from watching too much news because this tends to make me angry and depressed.

I feel conflicted at times. Now that I am out in the 'world', I've come to realize that there are a lot of absolutely wonderful, caring people who exist that are not JWs. But on the other hand, there is a great deal of evil and evil people. I am struggling with my belief in a higher power, because sometimes it is just mind-boggling how much people suffer in countries where there is not enough food or clean water or where there is a constant war zone going on and political unrest.

i fall into moral panics every now and then. mostly with environmental issues. but mostly i too see the world as a great place to be. now that i am out, i see many things more clearly, even the evils. i have great optimisim for our species. my optimism is helped by the awe i feel at nature and the cosmos, and the probabilities involved in my very existence at this point in time on this little planet. it's incredible! not to say that i don't have odd bad days of lonliness and moral panics, but it's better than the borg, where there were so MANY moral panics going on all the time!

my mom keeps saying that this is a weird world.... and I keep asking her, compared to what?

good or evil --- compared to what?

great place to be, compared to what?

I don't have any "real" standards of comparison.... I discovered that reality is always exactly what it must be...so why compare it to anything else and judge it as if there is some other world that I know about, which I dont? I am here, it is now...and it is always perfectly what it must be until I compare it to something it ain't and only when I forget this simple and obvious truth....that I think things are wrong.
