It was the same thing with a zodiac plaque I had at the time, my extensive collection of horror novels, pound puppis, cabbage patch dolls..........

Anyone remember when they were all up in arms about the old Proctor and Gamble logo?

my mom was a strict jw and i had a pound puppy and 2 cabbage patch dolls....what was the jdub dish with them? and i've never heard of the P&G thing...please elaborate.

i had 2 toy restrictions growing up. the only way i was allowed to play with my barbies was by pretending that they were either out in service or at the kingdom hall... i also wasn't allowed to have any fairies...dammit. although i do have a rather extensive collection now.

oh yeah.......she threw out all of my disney movies. i'm talking the old school classic VHS ones that aren't even in production anymore. i could have made some major dough off of those now......sonofabeeyotch.

Not being jw, I find all this fascinating. Sorry, but I do. What is wrong with a cabbage patch doll? Because they came from a garden? And are you kidding about the Barbie going into field service? Do you suppose jw kids imaginations are better or worse because of all the restrictions? Sometimes I wonder if some of the jw kids might have had quite a wild imaginary life, not being able to act things out in play time. Carla

I really really really wanted a GI Joe with kung-foo grip.

No GI Joe and no little plastic army men.

My mom wouldn't let me have a Ken doll because she didn't want me to play "dating" with Barbie. Maybe she was afraid there would be hot plastic sex in the toy box at night.

I forgot about Ken....wait, now that I think about it I wasn't allowed Barbie either. I don't remember why though. I did have a Skipper doll. I think she was Barbie's little sister. I don't remember the JW's having a thing about Proctor and Gamble. But my ex-mil who was Baptist wouldn't buy anything with the P&G logo on it.

yeah I wasn't allowed to have barbie at all, someone did give me a Ken doll that talked once, but my mom ripped the cord out because it talked about dating or something, I don't remember.

We were not allowed to have Unicorns or troll dolls either. Cupi dolls were not a problem, my brother had one he played with in the bathtub.

We couldn't have guns or any squirt gun that looked like a gun. Back then, they did make squirters that actually looked like brass knuckles, now that I think about them, and we were allowed to have those.

The funny thing is, my parents never forbade us from watching R rated movies if they were violent, but if they had any kind of nudity, that was a no no. Unfortunately, we have done that with our son as well. I don't mean to say that I'd allow him to watch nudity, but I mean he isn't kept from watching movies like the Matrix or something like that. We do not let him watch things that are very gory though, but he is allowed to play any game he wants that is because it doesn't look the same as the movies do. He knows it's not real violence and I know he's not out inacting the stuff (okay, I don't want any crap from anyone over this so leave me alone LOL kiddin').

I think the reason we have not been so strict with him is because my parents were very strict and I didn't want to be that way with our kids. Also, movies that were R when I was a kid are probably pg 13 now, so not quite the same.

I always thought that my mom's thing about unicorns was stupid considering we were allowed to watch any Disney movie we wanted. My mom actually told me recently that we shouldn't let our son watch Harry Potter because of the sorcery stuff and I said, why not, you let us was The Sword in the Stone and pretty much any Disney movie ever made (except Bednobs and Broomsticks) and her answer was, well that's different, HP and B&B are real life, not cartoon and kids will want to reinact a real life movie more so than they will a cartoon (she doesn't know her grandson very well then cuz he's a cartoonaholic lol). I always thought that was so stupid! He's seen all of the HP movies and I finally saw B&B as an adult and thought, what's the big deal? Our son doesn't really like the HP movies because he can't sit still long enough and gets bored.

A friend of our family was having problems with spiritism and fantasy (she was really heavy into fantasy books because her reality sucked!) Anyway, she was having nightmares and such and my mom told her it was because of the unicorn pendent she wore around her neck and told her that she should get rid of it. I don't know if she ever really did, but she stopped wearing it to the KH and around my mom at least.

no casper the friendly ghost; scooby doo, any tv shows w/ a worldly holiday theme, although my parents always had a strange facination with dickens "a christmas carol" all they would do was go around saying "scrooge was right; scrooge was right!"

no frankenberry, count chocula or lucky charms cereal (hey maybe they WERE doing us a favour)

and DON'T EVEN talk about DISCO (all u oldsters; remember all those forboding articles on DISCO during the 70's????)
