Did we become JW because we wanted someone else to do our thinking for us?

I had no choice, I was born into it and conditioned early on. It took me a few years to break he conditioning and deprogram.

I was a rebellious teenager who didn't let any stoopid adults tell him what to do :)

So of course when JW's came along with their message that all of the social structures of the adult world (business, gov't, religion) were hopelessly corrupt and under the power of Satan...well, let's just say that the message resonated pretty well with me. Haha, I was right world! You're bad bad BAD! Plus, the idea of being among the chosen, god it was all so intoxicating to my 21 year old self.

Little did I know that I was submitting to an authority structure that itself was tyrannical and unbending. I just didn't understand or grasp the organization side of the organization. I was under the impression that it was all very egalitarian. LOL. It took me 10 years to realize that the heart and soul of the WTS religion is their FDS authority doctrine, and that the only way to be a good JW was to think exactly the way the WTS wanted me to think, not run ahead or become a presumptuous(TM) independent thinker.

I'm glad I got out, but having no easy answers, nobody to prescribe my thinking and actions for me and tell me that as long as I follow the formula everything is going to turn out good for me in the end, it's still hard. I'm a smart person, but I'm not an intellectual, and there's so much information, so much choice, so much that I *don't* know, I often feel overwhelmed by it all.

Many people join various faiths to be a part of something, and to feel comforted at the prospect of something in the future, like the Kingdom of God. The JW's taught this and also brought fear to their followers saying that they would lose their lives if they did not comform.

What I was attracted to was the fact that God had a name as in Jehovah. This raised my curious thoughts and so I was invited, and accepted the invitation to the Kingdom Hall. Lowe and behold many teachings held true, and many have not. however I still follow Jehovah through Jesus Christ. Are you all on this forum to teach, or are you looking for answers to lifes many questions?

Then the day comes when we realize what has been going on in our lives, and we begin to break the umibilical cord of this co-dependence. We begin to think for ourselves. We begin to question. We start to search for alternative answers, and discover a whole world of alternatives are out there just waiting for us, if we have the courage to explore......

And then we are shunned and talked about abusively. What a Christian religion. NOT!!

    Truth or Lie,

Many on this forum are here to teach. Many are also still looking for answers to life's questions, and they didn't find it inside the WTS, even though there was a time they thought they did. But there are other reasons as well: To share the experiences they have gone thru as a JW, and what happened when they left or were kicked out, either voluntarily or involuntarily. Perhaps with most of us, it's a little of everything. It's better than hiding your light under a bushel.

I see, kinda like a group session, except with typed words. But if they shun you, why do people hate them in return? Just let them learn what it feels like when they need your love in return. I suggest just turning the other cheek without getting mad back. I see many harsh words in anger on this forum. Not too healthy for unity sake.

A real JW cannot think that some parts of JWism is good and some parts not.

You're thinking like the organization, not like GOD. If they choose to DF a person than they set themselves up as judges do they not? Jesus Christ did not teach this. In other words, if you feel like supporting the organization, than do so. If not GOD will not mind if you still Love GOD. Do you understand this? All congregations, all peoples, including all races belong to their maker Jehovah, not to the W.T.S.
