    When is the FDS appointed

Can anyone tell me the date when the WT teaching of FDS's appointment over master's belongings became an official doctrine of the society? Was it a new 'truth' revealed in a WT circa 1914/19, or was the doctrine developed piecemeal in hindsight because subsequent events seemed to indicate it?

Since Matt 24:42-47 and Luke 12:37-44 is the fundamental blank on which the Society rests its authority of appointment, a clear and accurate understanding of these verses would seem to be indispensable, yet nowhere have I seen a definitive scriptural discussion of the matter. All the society seems to say, is that it has been appointed because it was preaching the good news of the Kingdom and because it recognised 1914 (based on the dubious date of 607 BCE) as the start of the King's Parousia.

A contextual reading of these verses, however, reveals not only that these are not criteria for the appointment, but also that the societies explanation of these verses is invalid. It must also be asked, this being so, that in claiming appointment, have they not have run ahead of Jehovah much like King Saul did when he offered up a sacrifice in Samuel's stead.

Reading from the NW Student's Bible we find emphasis placed on 1) not being misled into believing that Jesus is to be found in any one place, 2) on being watchful and ready to receive the master at his arrival (check footnote) and 3) that he comes at an unknown, unexpected time. It also tells us that the evil slave says in his heart (not publicly) ?my master is delaying,? which indicates that he had a different time frame in mind and instead of acknowledging his error and adjusting his understanding he becomes increasingly autocratic.

The verses dealing with the judgement of the slave imply that the one who is finally appointed has not behaved in this manner, but has remained watchful and made the necessary adjustments in his viewpoint by drawing on reserve oil, as pictured by the wise virgins.

It is also is clear that the appointment does not occur until after the master's arrival (having come aorist of erxomai ftnt NW Student's Bible) not at the beginning of his presence (parousia), and that he is then appointed to give food during kairo, which is a period of short duration, not a long-term ongoing feeding program.

A careful comparison and analysis of the pertinent verses at Matthew Mark and Luke (with reference to the original Greek wording and tense usage), indicates that Jesus, when he begged the question 'Who really is the faithful and discreet slave...?' was looking at it from futuristic viewpoint--as if projecting himself into that time, because he did not know who, if any (Lu 18:8), would be found prepared and ready at that time.

Also it should be noted that it is the angels themselves who gather the chosen ones together (from the four winds), not any human agency (compare Matt 13:30, 41 where angels are told first to bind the weeds into bundles for burning then gather the wheat into God's storehouse).

Is I recall, CT Russel's wife (once a writer for the WT) one day started calling him the faithful and discreet slave. I think this was prior to 1910. It stuck and then gradually as Rutherford came in, it went from being a person to a class of people.

it went from being a person to a class of people.

The "other sheep" could then be a single person and not a class of people.

    *** w59 3/15 p. 168 Keeping Strict Watch on How We Walk ***

With us invisibly is the Greater Joshua, Jesus Christ, to lead us into the coming new order of "new heavens and a new earth." With us is also the "faithful and discreet slave" class, whom the Greater Joshua appointed in charge of all his earthly belongings in the year 1919.

Kingdom of a 1,000 Years chap. 17 p. 355 The "Slave" Who Lived to See the "Sign" ***

On inspecting the remnant of his anointed disciples in the year 1919 C.E., the reigning King Jesus Christ did find the appointed "slave" faithful and discreet in the feeding of his "domestics." Accordingly, he appointed this "slave" class over all his belongings.

The WTS had to explain why 1914 did not morph into the collapse of all the governments and the destruction of religion and the anointed going to heaven.

The explanation was that there was a war in heaven from 1914-1918 which was reflected on earth. By 1918, Satan and his angels were totally cast out and barred from heaven so the deceased anointed (from 33 CE to 1918) were resurrected to heaven. God and Jesus inspected his temple (that phrase is used on almost every page of Rutherford's books) and found only the WTS holy enough to put in charge of Christ's earthly belongings (see quote above).

It makes you think about the status of the WTS before 1919 and the status of Russell if they were considered spiritually unclean or contaminated.

    *** w90 3/15 p. 10 ?The Faithful Slave? and Its Governing Body ***

"Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?"?MATTHEW 24:45.

    The

"Slave" and Its Governing Body as the Time of the End Drew Near

    15

Jesus expected anointed Christians collectively to be acting as a faithful steward, giving his body of attendants "their measure of food supplies at the proper time." (Luke 12:42) According to Luke 12:43, Christ said: "Happy is that slave, if his master on arriving finds him doing so!" This indicates that for some time before Christ arrived to settle accounts with his spirit-anointed slaves, they would have been dispensing spiritual food to members of the Christian congregation, God?s household. Whom did Christ find doing so when he returned with kingly power in 1914 and proceeded to inspect the house of God in 1918??Malachi 3:1-4; Luke 19:12; 1 Peter 4:17.

    16

As the long period of Jesus? waiting at Jehovah?s right hand drew to a close, it gradually became apparent who was giving spiritual food supplies to Christ?s domestics even in the time prior to 1914. Do you think it was Christendom?s churches? Certainly not, for they were deeply involved in politics. They had been willing tools of colonial expansion and had tried to outdo one another to prove their patriotism, thus encouraging nationalism. This soon brought heavy bloodguilt upon them, that is, when they gave their active support to political governments involved in the first world war. Spiritually, their faith had been weakened by Modernism. A spiritual crisis was brought about because many of their clergy became easy prey to higher criticism and evolution. No spiritual nourishment could be expected from Christendom?s clergy!

    17

Similarly, no nourishing spiritual food was forthcoming from those anointed Christians who were more concerned with their personal salvation than with putting the Master?s talent to work. They turned out to be "sluggish," unfit to take care of the Master?s belongings. Hence, they were thrown "into the darkness outside," where the churches of Christendom still are.?Matthew 25:24-30.

    18

On arriving to inspect his slaves in 1918, therefore, whom did the Master, Jesus Christ, find giving to his body of attendants their measure of food supplies at the proper time? Well, by then, who had given sincere truth-seekers the correct understanding of the ransom sacrifice, the divine name, the invisibility of Christ?s presence, and the significance of 1914? Who had exposed the falsehood of the Trinity, immortality of the human soul, and hellfire? And who had warned of the dangers of evolution and spiritism? The facts show that it was the group of anointed Christians associated with the publishers of the magazine Zion?s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ?s Presence, now called The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah?s Kingdom.

    19

In its issue of November 1, 1944, The Watchtower stated: "In 1878, forty years before the Lord?s coming to the temple in 1918, there was a class of sincere consecrated Christians that had broken away from the hierarchic and clergy organizations and who sought to practice Christianity . . . The following year, namely, in July, 1879, that the truths which God through Christ provided as ?food in due season? might be regularly distributed to all his household of consecrated children, this magazine, The Watchtower, began to be published."

    20

Supplying information on the development of the modern-day Governing Body, the December 15, 1971, issue of The Watchtower explained: "Five years later [in 1884] Zion?s Watch Tower Tract Society was incorporated and served as an ?agency? to minister spiritual food to thousands of sincere persons seeking to know God and to understand his Word . . . Dedicated, baptized, anointed Christians became associated with that Society at headquarters in Pennsylvania. Whether on the Board of Directors or not, they rendered themselves available for special work of the ?faithful and discreet slave? class. They aided in the feeding and directing of the slave class, and thus a governing body made its appearance. This was evidently under the guidance of Jehovah?s invisible active force or holy spirit. Also, under the direction of the Head of the Christian congregation, Jesus Christ."

    21

In 1918, when Jesus Christ inspected those claiming to be his slaves, he found an international group of Christians publishing Bible truths for use both inside the congregation and outside in the preaching work. In 1919 it truly turned out to be as Christ had foretold: "Happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so. Truly I say to you, He will appoint him over all his belongings." (Matthew 24:46, 47) These true Christians entered into the joy of their Master. Having shown themselves "faithful over a few things," they were appointed by the Master to be "over many things." (Matthew 25:21) The faithful slave and its Governing Body were in place, ready for a widened assignment. How glad we should be that this was so, for loyal Christians are richly benefiting from the devoted work of the faithful slave and its Governing Body!

Boy, what a load of crap!

In truth all those who follow the "Way" Jesus taught, are the faithful slave .

Blondie maybe you know this , if their are any supposed "Anointed" on the GB ?

If not, then who really is feeding JW's

    Kind Regards

In 1918, when Jesus Christ inspected those claiming to be his slaves, he found an international group of Christians publishing Bible truths for use both inside the congregation and outside in the preaching work.

.. and just 12 years later, this group of christians who published bible truths built a house in California, named Beth Sarim. This "House Of Princes" was built as a home for the faithful people of old (Moses, Abraham, etc..), so that they would have a place to live upon their resurrection. This group of christians "published" something about Beth Sarim in 1942, speaking of "publishing" bible truths. When the faithful ones of old didn't return upon the expected time, the house was sold.

This group of christians also "published" too many hints about 1975 being the end, and many poor misled souls changed their lives accordingly, so that they would have time to reach as many people as possible with the good news of God's fast approaching kingdom. When nothing happened, this group of christians published an article which put the blame of this misunderstanding on its members, not on themselves.

This group of christians also published too much new light on 'this generation' to a point where it was no longer something that a rational thinking human being could believe.

This group of christians has no proof that Jesus approved of them when he returned. Heck, they don't even have proof that he returned.

We know this is the correct interpretation, because the FDS says so. And we know they are the FDS because they have the correct interpretation.
