Years ago I visited a KH in Jacksonville, Florida. The church was about half black and half white. Although I don't think that there was an official rule, for some reason almost all of the black parrishoners sat in the back while the whites sat in the front.

Seating arrangements in days gone past
***
w56 8/15 p. 506 President Serves in Taiwan, Okinawa and Japan ***In Taiwan it is the custom for the sexes to be segregated at meetings, men sitting on one side, women on the other. Here Jehovah?s witnesses too had observed this custom until one year ago.
***
jv chap. 23 p. 531 Missionaries Push Worldwide Expansion ***However, in Lebanon the missionaries were confronted with customs of another sort. Few brothers brought their wives and daughters to meetings. The women who did attend always sat in the back, never in among the men.

At the KH where I went to, we were not allowed to sit in the back row either, as this was reserved for people with young children. As for parking, it seemed that most people always parked in the same spot, just like they always sat in the same spot at the KH. When I had surgery a few years back, I was "allowed" to sit in the back, because I couldn't sit on a chair for too long and had to walk around a lot. I ended up faking the pain for a few weeks longer than was necessary, because I loved sitting in the back.

At my last hall, the CO's apartment was connected to the KH. His was the only space that was reserved. There is even a sign right in front of his door that says, "No Parking." His parking space is the closest spot next to the hall but is also part of the general parking lot. There were also a few handicap spots too.
Membership has its privileges.

5 years ago, parking was tight at our hall---------today, only about 20 cars are in the lot for a Sunday meeting.-----------(20X2per car--40 people inside a hall that used to hold 150-200) The end must be close.

I remember the back rows of the KH being EXCLUSIVELY for those w/ young children and NOT latecomers. if you were "unlucky" (wow! a worldly expression) enough to come in a few minutes late; the punishment was to be paraded up front as a spectacle to all. usually the 1st two front rows of seats were empty, so that was "punishment row" for those who came in late.

i used to do car park duty. the KH was on a 'rough' estate so we had to keep and eye out in case they were stolen or broken into. I used to walk round checking the tax discs!!!! it was always first come first served in that carpark....

I usually do a quick count whenever I drive by. LOL. Funny to know the "study" themes - THANKS BLONDIE! - and to watch the fluctuating car counts.
