I don't think I've been to Bowes Road since we refurbished it around 1988 - we slept on site, which made for some hi-jinks . I went there as a kid, in the 70's, as we were living in Buckinghamshire at the time. I used to love the dining hall, and the cool fire-escape on the middle left of the main auditorium.
Knew a few folks in Rotheram, years ago, mostly through mutual friends. One lad, called Jason, went to bethel in the late 80s and may have got married, but I never heard of him again.

I was there too...small world,i was stuck on the painting team with some local Bro,s.Being barely 17 at the time ,i was probably the one who suffered the high jinks!!Tartan paint, left handed screw drivers etc..the whole shebang!I fell for most of them too....lol
One thing ive learned is what a small World it is on this Board.

Woohoo!
Very small world. We spent half the night running around the balconies playing tig - juvenile lot, I know. Half our joinery team were there, and we were a bit high-spirited until one of the security boys grassed us up.
I was helping with some joinery on the canopy, out front - gotta love those Hilti guns, with black cartridges. They give a good whump, as they pin the timber to the steel frameYou didn't get sent for some glass hammers and rubber nails, did ya?

Being the naive Lad i was then...probably yes!Lol.Sadly my Team was in digs up the Road..(Edmonton i seem to recall)and opportunities for real japery were at a minimum...our P.O of the time was Team leader too.
Good memories though.........
PS You may recall the Bowes Road Caretaker?..cant remember his Name...we all thought he was a miserable old sod,but i found out many Years later he had lost his Wife in very tragic circumstances.

Hi Paul,
I'm in the Cambridge area and frequent both Norwich and Bowes Road. However, I've not been to your congregations so doubt that you know me.
Welcome to the board.

i wasnt in rotherham until 1998, so i dont remember a jason... my childhood memories of bowes road were visiting the adventure playgound nearby at lunchtimes, and food tokens, then when i got dunked- i was sat drinking a hot tea (in a new suit) when an elder i knew suddenly squeezed my shoulders from behind (in a supportive, 'well done' kinda way) the tea went all over me!!!! thanks for that!!!!! lol
if you were responsible (or partly) for the renovating- who decided on that weird green paint???? or was that a later renovation??

I was at too many Quick Builds to remember, but I do recall Holbech, Kings Lynn, Wisbech and Kettering, to mention a few.
I once dated a girl from Stamford, just North of Peterborough.
I always wondered what happened to Sarah. -

What's happening with Bowes Road? Just before I left we were informed it was going to a demollished to extend the north circular.
