The risks of killing a delusion...

I will help with ideas, and any intel I can provide.

At this time I can have no part of administering or operating a web page until I get my wife out. Until then I can participate in no concerted effort to destroy the org or my local congregation.

This is where I am headed once she is out.

A relational database of all known dubs from the congregation to worldwide level would be a powerful tool. It would require constant maintenance, and would require the information from dubs, family of dubs, and ex dubs. THere are tons of those who could provide info. If you have 1000 members here, and assume they know 10 dubs each, we get info on 10000 dubs. From those we aquire new intel assets. From those we get new contact info. So on and so on.

I thought of this when I heard such a database of contacts was used in tracking down Saddam.

There are all sorts of issues involved, such as how to determine if info is reliable. Security issues are important. Use of the info would have to be tightly controlled.

It could be used to provide statistical info, member status, kill recruitment, aid exit, and generally scare the pants off the leadership... which as I pointed out on another thread has it's own self destructive benefits as well.

Hmmm. I'm starting to see the possibilities. Contributors could "own" or be linked to their submitted dubs/studies and be responsible for keeping their info current and accurate, with the aid of periodic automated follow-up. It's so crazy it just might work.

Well, there is still a lot to think about. There are a lot of possiblitites. A single person or group of people has to run the whole smash and the rules have to be well established and thought out.

This is strictly a concept. The purpose of a concept discussion is to establish the goals. In this case I think the goal is to:

    1. limit recruitment by identifying and intercepting new Bible studies/return visits with inoculating information.

    2. Aiding the exit of newly df/da by providing guilt reducing information and contact/support from decent, non-jw, not-pushing-apostasy or another religion type folks

    3. Establish a contact list of jws, ex-jws, families of jws, and potential jw recruits.

What we are talking about then in this particular thread is a database of info. There are several entities that would be required to fulfill the above goals. They can be related openly or directly, or the relationships can be hidden. Some entities could be public and common knowledge. Others would be known only to those running the whole smash. And lastly, there would need to be a single entity coordinating everything.

There are several phases to a project. That is what we are talking about here. The phases are concept-requirements-design-implementation-launch.

This is strictly in the concept phase. We should focus our discussions to "what are the goals" and "what could we create to accomplish those goals".

It somehow must be controlled enough for security, accuracy, and resistance to being intentionally corrupted, yet publically accessible enough to be the first place anyone can turn to if they want to help someone.

In general people would probably have to have a direct incentive for submitting info. People would have to see a reasonable link between submitting a person's name and helping that person in some way. That is not an easy sell, unless there is a very good product at the heart of it that can be shown to produce results.

Personally, I would have a natural aversion to submitting my own wife's name to a database, with the feeling that no one else really needs to know what her status is. Basically she's already under my "care". That is, unless I see that doing so can provide me with an additional resource that can help me in some way.

I posted some ideas under CYPs "how to implode your congregation" thread.

Does anyone know a good writer that can write a short pamphlet or tract that can be sent to newly disfellowshipped ones or just ones we think are weak. More details are on CYPs thread.

It could be subsidized in cost by a "Classmates" sort of board, as well too, for a price people could find out contact info from the site and sent confidentially in a recipient email....that way if someone wanted to contact someone, its pretty secure, and the site makes money.

Just another thought...I know I would pay money to find some of the people I miss that are gone as well.

I believe the statistical possibilities are promising, too. Our knowing how many are DF/DA/Faded or remain DF/DA/Faded through our services or aid who never return would be a powerful bit of knowledge for influencing the bOrg.

{edit} MelbaToast: I think that is a wonderful suggestion! We would merely have to serve as a middleman getting authorization to release contact information to the inquirer.

AlanF, any thoughts? I am curious about your perspective on the idea. jst2laws? What do you think? If the core group is well trained in cult deprogramming techniques, I think it should work well with minimal long-term harm to Witnesses.

    Respectfully,

yeah thats what hit me when you brought up the idea of non-spam by sending an email. Its exactly what those types of boards do...If someone wants to get your contact info they send you an email requesting permission, or notification.

Edited to say: With real stats taken from their official numbers, and our stats staring at their face....maybe 1 + 1 will turn up to be 2 Finally...the last checkmate
