Yes, I think that as individual women we have to learn to respect & nurture our femaleness - because our society certainly doesn't.

uggh,,, the infallibility of doctors ... there's an antiquated idea for you ... the poor docs, we put them on a pedestal and don't go into things armed as educated consumers, 'partners in crime' so to speak, with our health care professionals. In that way, you can work well with informed providers, and call the lazy and/or arrogant ones on their bull$h*t.

Also, sometimes you can make someone stop and think outside their medical box. That's pretty good stuff, is what happened w/ my surgeon. He actually listened to me, and gave my ideas about my body some thought. What a guy, no arrogance there! We worked out a plan together, and the second time around seems to have worked ... but that is neither here nor there ...

At this point, it's probably best to leave it alone ,,, be supportive of her chosen process. You know how important that is. :)

    But I hear your frustration!

Thanks Tal - it's nice to vent sometimes! And you're right, I'm not going to take it out on her.

    Tale,

I agree that the culture is now male dominated,, which is not good,,even causes wars because men in power have lost touch with thier femine side.

The medical field I can not speak with any real knowlegde becuase I don't have any,, but it is good to see women in the field growing in responcible positions,, this would be good. I think the male domination is going a long with the fundamentalist of the 3 major religions and these will lose thier hold as women gain more a say in government. Blending is far better than domination for the human race.

frankie, exactly. Sometimes we do get a little het up and need to vent about what's going on, but my intent, at least, is education and a coming together of the minds.

That's why our debates fizzle , cause we agree too much .. lol !

    JW83,

Have you had a look at Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by Christiane Northrup, M.D. yet? It's an excellent guide to women's health and empowerment written by an ob/gyn.

A quick quote: "The Judeo-Christian cosmology that informs Western civilization sees the female body and female sexuality in the person of Eve as responsible for the downfall of mankind. For thousands of years women have been beaten, abused, burned at the stake, and blamed for all manner of evil simply because of their sex."

I would also recommend Laughter of Aphrodite by Carol P. Christ (especially for its first section on Dialogues with God and Tradition) and The Chalice and the Blade by Riane Eisler.

    Best wishes on your project...

Thanks Merry - I've just come across Carol Christ's name in another book. I've mainly been focusing on Judith Ochshorn & Anne Baring, along with some others, I'm summarising an anthology by Karen L King at the moment. I've never looked at this stuff before, & it's great. I'll look out for the titles you suggested.

I've got to hand my essay in in a couple of weeks, though, so time is an issue for the essay, although I'm sure I'll read more for my own sake. Particularly when I'm planning my next child!

Merry, I just checked & my library has Eisler, so I'll check it out. Thanks!

Cool. The Chalice and the Blade was quite pivotal for me years ago in exploring and more intelligently questioning the Judeo-Christian beliefs I was raised with as a JW (especially in regards to issues involving the sexes).
