IMA0.0 son of the digital age. I dont trust anything analog. Thanks purpls
I got a Panasonic RR-QR160................50 bucks and quality is great.........it even can record conversations while in my purse........but there are some that are better...
We use Sony for the docs that record medical stuff that is not on computer dictation.......i dont know the model number.........they run about 35 bucks.......I dont buy expensive ones and they are stolen from the hospitil about as fast as I can buy them. But they work very well.
The link above is the one I have, IP. It uses flash memory. I didn't want moving parts, i.e. a hard drive. It runs on a single AA battery. It comes with a USB cable and you can dump the file from your Iriver to your laptop and convert it to an mp3. It has a built-in microphone. It can record up to 35 hours!!!!!!
I use it in my job and have been happy with the sound quality. I don't know how well it would do in a covert situation where you had it in your shirt pocket moving up against fabric. However, if you want to plug a small mike into it it has a port for that.
I have seen digital recorders smaller than the Iriver but can't comment on the quality of the recording.
I have a RipFlash voice recorder which saves files in MP3 format. It's convenient in that at lower bitrates, you can record continuously for far longer than a cassette recorder ever could. The higher bitrates go up to 320 kbps which is great for recording music. However it all depends on the quality of the mic. Crappy mike, crappy recording. The piece I have has a crappy mic. So for an extra $100 I bought a high-quality stereo microphone, which I use when I record concert shows.
I use an IRiver mp3 player/recorder/fmradio for my digital recording.
The quality is as perfect as you can get without studio mikes and perfect acoustic enviornments.
For sitting at a table recording a conversation, for example, and it being anonymous; you can't do any better than this. It is about the height of a cigarette and no thicker than a cigar.

Yeah, that's the other great thing about these Flash recorders is that they can be so tiny, so it is easy to take them to concerts.
what are you up to Ip_sec?
about 210, gawd I need to lose about 30 lbs. :(****
Sony's a great place to start. Most recording for radio stations is done digitally now, so I wouldn't worry so much about quality:
