I always like the ones where we get to see the actual person. So, Arrowstar, darlin, I dig your pic! Abaddon's avatar is very nice, as is Evilforce's. Little Toe used to have one a while back, of him and a little fella, I think his nephew, that was cute. Cruzanheart has a lovely pic, too. There are a bunch of others I like, but I can't keep straight in my mind to whom they belong.

LOL - I seem to remember a certain period on the board's history when big scenes and crying-fests where being made over certain (ummm...topless) "picture" avatars.

Its interesting what you said. Sometimes I think I react to posters by their avatar. Also I have thought that a poster is male, and had a real shock to find out they are female and visa versa. It just shows how we quickly "judge" I dont think thats the right word, ppl by what we see even if it is only an avatar.

I like to see ppl real faces, I want to be able to do that one day

Noticed Purplesofa's new avatar - and it reminded me of p_r capone's (love those black and white pics) - and WHERE IS p_r capone??

hi mc, i don't have a good sense for posts (at least in english) as i usually unwantedly provoke controversies, but i seem to pick good avatars :-)

when i first registered i had a baphometh avatar with a pentagram... guess it was that good-bye-god phase i was in back then. interestingly that bearded scottish progressive christian uberapostate who announced his disassociation on stage (what's his name again?) liked it.

glad you like mine :-) used it after long desillusionary arguments within my family...

I'm quite a visual person, so I like faces, as it gives a bit of a feel for the person. There are only a few ways to give those extra pieces of information that change a 2D character into a 3D person. I still maintain that the best way is actually getting out there and meeting them, even if it does incur great effort at times.

I do find it confusing when folks use pics of opposite-gender individuals that they admire or lust after. It kinda screws with the head to post to a guy who has a busty babe as his avatar, or vice-versa.

Failing faces, for those who still need to remain anonymous, then pictures of representative characters, appeal to me. I can think of examples such as Matty's "The Scream", IPSEC's lotus position pic, Angharad's watercolour, Dr.Watson's cartoon, and FunkyDerek's gag pic. All of these are excellent demonstrations of how you can capture something of yourself in an avatar, without actually posting your own pic. That is, except in the case of Derek, which really is his pic

Google:You're right - your choice of avatars is exceptional

LT - I think your "face" looks a little sinister in the current avatar and slightly reminscent of the beginning bits to the video for Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen!

The thread has provoked me to change mine for a pic of me on the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls week before last with my hair plastered to my head with the spray. What do you think of my fetching blue plastic mac?

    Now there's a thing.
I've had two people tell me it looked "dark", and now "sinister" !?!!

To be honest, I needed a change, after Logasrun pointed out that the last one (with my two nephews) reminded his of the "Great Teacher" book , so I took a quick snap, blotted out the surroundings quickly with a black "brush", and posted the result.

I later looked at different background colours, but they look naff.
I was kind of amused by the effect of the eyes following you
    LOL

Do I need to change it again?
I don't want to freak anyone out, ya know?

You don't have to change it - its not that freaky. (Just don't show it to the kids!)

LT - I thought you looked sinister too, until Crumpet said

so now in my head I'm hearing "Scaramouche Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango"

    ig.

    Altogether now, Wayne's World style...
