What are some good non satanic metal groups/albums?

I created a post like this awhile back but I thought I would start with a fresh one for 2005. I'm still somewhat of a newb to the metal world but I'm a more familiar with the music now than I was a year or two ago.

First off I love almost everything Metallica does, I even liked most of the songs from St Anger. I really dig songs with crushing riffs and hard hitting melodies, but what I'm discovering is that a LOT of bands love throwing occult themes and references into their music. I'm not quite that hardcore just yet, in fact I bought a few albums without realizing some of the content. I'll probably end up tossing out my Megadeth, Opeth, Sabbath and Meshuggah albums.

So anyone have a few metal suggestions without demonic influences

Yeah I love Tool, but APC is kind of hit and miss for me. I dig Rage too

That's a great song, one of my favorites. I've heard that Maynard was greatly influenced by the comedian Bill Hicks who also hated Hollywood with a passion.

Do you listen to any Chevelle? They're somewhat similar to Tool

I liked Hatebreed's "The Rise of Brutality." Hard sound, positive lyrics. Ironic when you consider their name and the name of the cd.

Depending on how hard you like it, try Nile. They have some very hard stuff, extremely heavy, but their songs are actually all based on Egyptian mythology, society, and beliefs. Amazing.

They have one particular song named "Die Rache Krieg Lied Der Assyriche", translated "The War Cry of the Assyrians". It is not your usual kind of song, it is actually sung as a war cry. Sounds like thousands of troops are marching, banging their sheilds and weapons, chanting, shouting... It really is amazing.

Nile is about as heavy as they come. I love them :)

Roots by Sepultura, "tribal metal" from Brazil. Or the classic Vulgar Display of Power by Pantera. Both are must haves.

Before you throw out your Sabbath discs, really look at the lyrics. Their true meaning is often surprising(ex. Children of the Grave).
