Coming soon: Australia v Germany
Ozzie! It would be more fun if it was Australian rules football!
Yes, Americans are still behind the rest of the world in producing the best soccer players, but I think we're closing the gap. Youth soccer leagues are as popular as ever here, and I think the romance and attraction of the "great American pastime" of baseball is lost on today's youth - the passion just isn't there anymore, IMO - too slow, too boring, too time-consuming for the ADD generation. Soccer is much more exciting to them, regardless of how hard the older generation preaches the virtues of baseball and American football.
The Liverpool-AC Milan game got unprecendented coverage and "buzz" here - in the eyes of the hardcore soccer fans in the USA, this match was a turning point in the American Media's coverage of world soccer.
Our MLS league still isn't a big draw though, and I think that's because Americans only want to see the best of the best, and MLS is a minor league comprised of up-and-coming teens and 20-somethings, and veterans of European and South American leagues that are past their prime.

Careful! remember what happened when it was Australia v England at Upton Park?
and then it will be the ashes...and we're gonna win this time

Interesting observation, I was raised on football and baseball. My daughters played vollyball and soccer. My grandkids play any sport in season, but *always* stick with martial arts. LIfe in America?

Yeah, sure!
Steph,
Do you reckon there's a whole generation of pommie kids that have never known their country to win the ashes!!!!!!!!!!
They've heard about it in their history books!!
Ozzie

My mate who lives in Oz says the Ozzies have brought out a DVD to commemorate his great occasion! I wonder how many Ozzies realise we viewed this as a practice match and substituted the entire team at half time.
Now if the Ozzies ever get to the World Cup finals we'll see a completely different sort of match. But it isn't going to happen, is it?
