I saw this on the JW Convention thread.

The last sentence of the third paragraphs says

There are now over 1,000,000 Witnesses in the United States.

What?!? When did this happen? According to their own statistics they have not reached a million.

Their 2004 report says there are 1,019,696 "peak witnesses" in the U.S. They may be basing their statement on that report. That report is found here:

Greetings! I noticed the new number also. There are three possibilities why the statement is not a lie as you assert. 1) the statement is obviously not meant to be an exact number as it uses a whole number. Although it says "more than.." the writer might have meant to say "about 1 million" 2) as the previous poster says the 2004 report indicates more that there are more than 1 million and 3) since the posted info is relatively new, it is quite possible that they are using the very latest numbers (not yet published anywhere else yet) but tabulated from either monthly reports or even perhaps based upon the Memorial attendance this year ----- In any case so what? It could simply be a mistake. Why jump on the Watchtower over such a minor issue? -Eduardo

I agree that this is not really an issue, even if the average publishers is a little below the million mark.

However, just for the record, Onoborus, I think that the following statement is a bit over the top:

I would certainly hope that a PR department could get their figures right before releasing them. The public should not be expected to guess what they meant to say.

Still, I agree with you that this is a minor issue, if it even is one at all.

If that number is right, its a relatively small one. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that the population of the USA is approximately 200 million, so one million is small stuff.

Actually, the CIA estimate US population at 295,734,134 so I guess we could say that it is over the three hundred million mark!

Why not ????? They aren't above making lies their refuge even tho they like to claim other wise . I suppose you believe they joined the UN for a library card ? I am not giving them the benefit of the doubt on anything any more . A lie is a lie and not just an honest mistake with them .
