Do JWs ever use their donations/WT profits to help the less-fortunate?

If the WTBTS is listed as contributor the WTBTS would get off the list because they don't contribute to 'worldly organisations.' So, in answer to your question, NO the WTBTS is a freaking CULT and all proceeds go to them and no one else.

Wow, I was hoping I was wrong for some reason.

How the **** are they following Christ's example (if he existed at all)? In the stories of Jesus, he helped and showed compassion to everyone, not just to a select few self-righteous drones in his clique. These people are just as Christian as the gum I scraped off the bottom of my shoe.

I'm really learning a lot here. I need to turn my parents on to this forum; although they no longer go to weekly service, they still attend the memorial every year.

The Jedi are a selfless people, living to the welfare of others, regardless of who it may be - t he Sith however think about themselves and as part of their pride they seek to establish a proper order for the benefit of others who aren't so esteemed as to do it for themselves.

    RichieRich - am gobsmacked!

The only ''money-raiser'' I have ever been aware of, is the 'swap parties' (is it a British - thing?). About once a month one ''sister'' will host one where members of the Congregation take along stuff they no longer want, and help themselves from others' ''donations'' - oh, did I mention..?..it's all in aid of the WT fund so they pop something in the Contribution Box while they're there!!

I wasn't saying the WT contributes to United Way, the other way around. I have read a number of threads through the years that the United Way GIVES money to the WT. The United Way donates to charitable orgs. like churches for use in their soup kitchens, etc... As we all know there are certainly no soup kitchens in the wt! So, I wrote the United Way asking them, but no response. Maybe more nosey people need to ask as well. A reporter could get to the bottom of this? carla

So the JWs are actually members of the Sith?

I knew Star Wars was real!

But do they, the WTS, ever help their own people that are in need particularly those that loyally served this org for decades. Do they have the common decency to offer at least a small pension to those that spent their entire lives as full time preachers promoting their interests?

I have the impression that the WTS deeply loaths the whole concept of charity something to be expected from an org that projects itself as a religion but has in fact a big business mentality. Giving seems to go too much against their gain... I mean grain.

Greendawn - My ex-mom-out-law has been pioneering since she was in her twenties. Now she's late 60's, maybe 70 and as far as I know she's still going. She has no health insurance, no pension plan, little Social Security since she hasn't worked full time for more than 4 years of her life. What is the WTBTS Retirement plan for her? 'Keep living with and depending on your JW daughter like you have the past 20 years - never mind the new husgand she's got - stay as long as they can tolerate you. If it doesn't work out ... go find someone else to take care of you. But don't worry, the end is so close. It won't be much longer.' (50 years and counting ...)

I have never seen the WTS do anything "charitable" that did not directly or indirectly benefit JWs.

The way the WTS interprets the bible, they only see the need to help other JWs and NOT "worldly" people who are not JWs.

Here are three scriptures they use to deny aid to non-JWs... Basically the passages refer to "brothers" and not "everyone". JWs then conclude that they are under no obligation to help anyone who is not a JW.

(Romans 12:13) . . .Share with the holy ones according to their needs. Follow the course of hospitality. . .

(1 John 3:17-18) . . .But whoever has this world’s means for supporting life and beholds his brother having need and yet shuts the door of his tender compassions upon him, in what way does the love of God remain in him? 18

Little children, let us love, neither in word nor with the tongue, but in deed and truth. . .

    (James 2:15-17) 15

If a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day, 16 yet a certain one of YOU says to them: "Go in peace, keep warm and well fed," but YOU do not give them the necessities for [their] body, of what benefit is it? 17 Thus, too, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself.

Sweet Tea this example from your own family shows clearly that the WTS is best understood as a business that is trying to pass itself off as a religion.

They say oh if we were a charity everyone would become JWs for the hand outs but what about those who did prove loyal and industrious to the org, like your relative she deserves some recognition, peace, and security in her old age whether the big A is near or not.

At least we can know what sort of "tree" they are from such fruitage of meanness.

No they don't lift a finger to help others, but it's ok for the JW's to use welfare and any other government hand-outs. The only help they ever give is building Kingdumb Hells and Assembly Hells if they are destroyed by natural disasters.

I really enjoy giving a dollar or two to local charities at the grocery store when I shop. Especially since there have been times in my past when I needed a hand-out, so I believe it's good Karma or good luck or whatever you want to call it, to try to give back to the community.
