if you could go back to when you were 18, just out of high school, what would you do? how often would you keep in touch with your friends?
graduation was both a momentous and sad day, hugging all my friends. and sometimes i wish i had a group to hang out with always instead of bein a loner.
its summer time

It seems almost impossible to keep in touch with highschool friends. Many of them get married, move away, and start new lives. I enjoyed high school, but don't really miss many people. There are a few I'd like to contact, but they live out of state and I have no idea where to look. It's no big deal. In life people come and go, and holding on to the past just slows us down.
I'm in a place now where I'm satisfied with the small group who stops by now and then (met at work). I wouldn't want to go back and change anything. I see that you just graduated, and you'll soon discover that the friend count generally goes down after high school unless you join some sort of club. My parents have no friends at all.

I'm glad that I never let those apostate JW's talk me into giving up my friends when I bacame a du(m)b. I still phoned and emailed them because I figured they needed the truth more than anyone. I am also thankful they didn't shun me because of my distorted beliefs. The only shunning I get now is from the 'true christian JW's'.

If I could go back to being 18 I would take complete advantage of education and get a university degree, I probably put too much emphasis on friends and having fun, which combined with being told by the JWs that I didn't need a decent education as it is all just 'vanity', has led to me being penniless most of the time.
I still speak to a couple of old school friends but thats down to Friends Reunited (I don't know if you have it in the States).
But you should just go ahead and get as many qualifications as possible!

tsunami_rid3r I'm a bit of a loner. I mean I enjoy time on my own. Tonight is Saturday night and I choose to spend the night in on my own with a few beers and not call anyone up. It can be great if you appreciate it. My personal opinion however, is that you're not a loner, you're lonely. Having been thrown out of a religion I know how that feels also. My only advice is that at your age, you need to find friends. And when I was your age and newly disfellowshipped I found a hundred friends by joining college (which is optional in the UK) and becoming a barman (bar tender). I met some pretty bad friends who I ditched but lots of others who I trust more than any witness.

I've got to look forward- not look back...
You've got all summer (until you all leave for college) to do all the stupid stuff you want... Keep up with them like its just a long weekend...
No need to reminisce (sp?) ... its only been a week right?

Make sure I have a photograph with all the classmates to keep as a souvenir for the future with all names noted down carefully who is who in the photo. Also a book with their farewell comments, and signatures.
