    Hey everyone... I'm back!

Had a great time in Mexico.

What a thrill it was to deliver books and supplies to the library in Tulum. The people there live in abject poverty. Pure sustenance existence. A far cry from their proud Mayan roots.

I'll post a report with more details later and maybe a few pics.

Glad to be "home". WHAT HAVE I MISSED?

Hi, I'm living in Puebla, Mexico working on my master's degree. I have been visiting 8 different families over the last year interviewing them about literacy practices in the home. One of the families is very poor and lives in a house with a dirt floor. The floor seems to be treated with something to keep it from being dusty. I mentioned this in the description of the family's home. My thesis director wants me to find out if they treat it with motor oil. I ask you, what does that have to do with literacy practices?

From what I've gathered in my research, the Mayan were even more advanced a civilization than the Romans. They had "zero" and higher math and atronomy, science etc.

Some of the stuff they accomplished is truly astounding... even by todays standards..

But alas they collapsed under their own weight...it seems the food ran out. They grew too big for their britches.

And apparently the Aztecs were some means sunzabiches that had no problem ripping your heart out (literally). Them and the Mayans didn't get along too well... and of course, the most violent tends to prevail.

What a shame to see the modern Maya... a truly decimated people.
