So sorry about your kitty, Jeanniebeanz.
I hated having mine put down so much, even though it was necessary, that I can't bring myself to get another.

So sorry about your kitty, Jeanniebeanz.

My mom says " Cats are like little people in fur coats" I'm sure Jonny cat was like your kid.........we send big sympathic hugs to you and your family..........................
Thanks, everyone... Yeah, it's been kinda sad here. My husband had Johnny for several years before we got together and was very attached to him. He was the smartest cat I'd ever known. We got Dumb-Dumb (our other kitty) last year and he was not exactly a big hit with my husband cause, well, he is dumb... Hubby never really got attached to him much but really loved Johnny Cat.
Yesterday, I looked outside on the porch and hubby was cuddling Dumb-Dumb. I think he really misses Johnny Cat. Dumb-Dumb is a little confused at this suddenly affectionate display from someone who had been a little standoffish to him till now, but didn't seem to mind. When in doubt, purr and drool... his motto...
It's amazing to me how such a big bad-*ss like my husband could have gotten so attached to a kitty. But then, my cousin builds choppers and hangs with a real rough crowd and his pet is a toy poodle who goes everywhere with him.
You never know, I guess...
J
The bigger and badder they are.... the harder they "fall".
I'm so sorry! We lost three cats over an 18-month period, so I know how devastating it can be. Make sure to keep an eye on Dumb-Dumb, too, and give him lots of attention. After one of our cats died, our other cat got very depressed. My thoughts are with you.
I'm sorry you had such a loss and in such a short period of time...
Yeah, you're right about Dumb-Dumb... He hasn't been up to his usual 'dumbness level' lately and definitely acts depressed. Normally, he would hang out anywhere he could get caught in your feet or trip you up while walking and was pretty vocal. Last day or so he's just been curled up in a ball in the corner and only opens his eyes when you pet him, no more 'meow' when you approach. He's kinda, "yeah, whatever... just let me be..."
He's been getting extra attention though, so, hopefully his 'dumbness level' will return shortly. How long was your kitty sad?
J
Jeannie, my condolences on your loss of JohnnyCat. I know how bad it feels.
...Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so
'twas Heaven here with you.
Seventeen years, though long for him, is far too short by our measure.
Jeannie,
Our kitty was doing about what yours is, too - just sleeping a lot and not doing his usual cute stuff. We actually had three episodes of this scenario because we've always had two cats. About two and a half years ago, one of our cats died unexpectedly of a brain tumor. Our other cat was about a year and a half old at the time and he'd never been alone (we adopted him as a kitten). He was very depressed for about a month, it seems, and we finally broke down and got him a kitten, even though we didn't feel quite ready for another cat. He perked up immediately and after about an hour of "getting to know you" time, the two of them were playing and sleeping together. Unfortunately, the kitten that we adopted had a rare virus called fip, which of course we didn't know when we adopted him, and we had to put him to sleep about six months later. The older cat again went through depression and we adopted another kitten about 6 weeks later, and again, he was very happy with his new little buddy (he was a very smart and obviously very sociable kitty). About a month after we adopted the second kitten, the first cat tragically drowned in our pond (about this time we were feeling quite cursed and I cried absolutely inconsolably for about a week). The kitten (who was at the time about 4 months old) seemed ok, though, after a few days of wondering where his buddy was - he wasn't depressed for an extended period like our other cat. We ended up adopting another kitten a few months later. The two we have now are happy, healthy, and best buddies, so hopefully they'll live long, happy lives (and they are inside only after the pond episode). So, hopefully Dumb-Dumb will perk up and be back to his usual self in a few days. I'm glad your husband is paying so much attention to him. My husband is cat-crazy, too, which I find very endearing.
Jeanniebeanz,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your favorite cat.
Our 14-year old daughter just loves kitties, and we're looking for one now. She used to have a pet cat, Sassy, but we lost her about a year ago. We know how attached we can get to family pets.
Maybe you will be able to find another "smart cat" or maybe a "cool dude" to help out poor Dumb-Dumb.
Rod P.
I'm so sorry Jeannie. I also love cats.
When my cat died many years ago, I was very very sad, and I still remember the date he died. An animal is like a member of the family...I got another one a month after he died, and I still have her. I chose her the same color as my other cat.
