Who can "prove" or "disprove" this?
My best guess is that the Governing Body is, and has been, a mix of both, dominated by the Dark Side of the Force.
Matthew 7: 20 and 21
They say that God has always had one organization on Earth, so since they're the only one's who are right, they must be it. They're under God's direction.
If this were true, why would they ever have had to change their doctrine? Hmmm...I guess God fibs to them once in a while. That big kidder!
In 607 B.C.E. (even though all secular and biblical records confirm 587/586 B.C. as the real date) the Babylonians under direction of Nebbuchadnezzar II invaded and destroyed the temple in Jerusalem and took the Jews home with him to feed them vegetables and other goodies. 2520 years later Jesus returned but noone except his disciples saw him. In 1919 Jesus went and inspected the 'spiritual' temple and only the IBSA were free from Babylonish practices like observing Christmas and recognising that to be saved one had to go to the cross even though they celebrated Christmas until 1926 and proudly had the cross emblazoned on WT magazines. Therefore, the Governing Body of Joe Hoba's Witlesses are the Faithful Discreet Slave because the facts undeniably prove who they are and if you disagree in any way, remember this....YOU WILL BE DF'd for apostasty against Joe Hoba and your friends and family will turn on you and call you the evil slave.
Because they said they are - by the way it is the same reason why the pope is infallible - beacuse he said so
Impossible to think about this without feeling a sense of rage. Damn you and your wicked lies, Governing Body. Damn you.

Yeah right, like we're going to believe anything from post number 666! Get behind me Satan!
damn! i should have been watching, i could have made it so much better.
i think that with this debate, it is possible to "prove" beyond a reasonable doubt that the WTS is NOT the so-called FDS of the jesus illustration. this would be possible from a doctrinal standpoint (if one accepts the bible as a holy book), or from a secular standpoint (if you don't).
what sort of "disproof" were you looking for? doctrinal or secular?
The watchtower says so...so it must be true
A guy called Don Cameron wrote a superb book that surgically dissects WT's claims to be the FDS. It is called "Captives of a Concept." It is a must-read if you've any doubts yourself, or if you need help to explain it to someone.
I also read Don Cameron's book and agree with "IT". The book in its' own way is more compelling than COC.
