I have a copy in front of me at this moment. I have read it three times. As time passes it becomes clearer. When I first read it my mouth was so agasp in seeing these realities that I think I missed the details. I see clearly the more I read it and the further away from the borg I get.

I have loaned out my original so I had to buy another copy. But I honestly think that In Search of Christian Freedom covers the subject even better. My copy of that one is on loan to the local Lutheran Pastor.

Richie, by all means read it...digest it and read it again but if you still live at home with JW parents be very careful; hate to see you be forced into a situation where choices are forced on you at this stage in your life.

Who wrote In Search of Christian Freedom?

The same guy - Ray Franz. C of C is essential for JWs, but In Search of Christian Freedom is just awesome. It exposes every single JW teaching as false, proved by Scriptures themselves. A couple of the middle chapters are heavy going, and the book is 800 pages. But along with CoC it taught me enough to challenge any JW doctrine with any JW. When CT Russell founded the Bible students, he was so near but so far from understanding scripture. But then... I refer to this book and its many Bible & Watchtower references time and time again. Ray Franz, nephew of Fred Franz (Watchtower President) is the member of the Governing Body who used scriptures to convince the rest of the Watchtower leadership to move away from a monarcical leadership style to a governing body. But that did not have the reforming impact he intended. The rest is history...

I only read 140 pages of C of C and I already knew some of the issues it covered but some of the other issues it brought up really surprised me and the evidence is irrefuttable. The doublespeak, hiding of facts, deception, outright lies, history of false teachings, arrogance and egos of some of the men in higher ranks in the organization through history, it's all there. I can't see how anybody can look at the org the same way after reading even that much of it.

It's available on amazon.com at a great price and their shipping is super fast!!

I don't understand why people who say they enjoyed the book, and what a great guy he is, then recommend that others

get it from amazon or elsewhere. Why not get it from the one who did all the work and needs our support.

His price is excellent and his service unbeatable.

My favorite part was where he explained the method of talking above the members. That is to make things so complicated that a person feels dumb and refrains from not knowing the meaning at all.

I used to think that everytime I accedently listened at the KH at one Watchtower meeting and the subject was, "Handling the Truth Aright" What the hell does that mean?

I really believed I was the stupid one and all the others were so intelligent. Needless to say nobody got it. Does anyone remember some of the members that seemed a few fries short of a Happy Meal answering the questions in the Watchtower?

I remeember going once with my wife who wasn't a wittness nnd she said, "They are just reading back what was read, no one has their own opinion"

Hmm.. I never thought of that at the time.

Moooooooo...Mooooooo (as they are being lead off to the slaughter)

I agree with yesidid. From my experience the service from Ray has been better than Amazon. I am not in the US and his postage charge to my country is much less than Amazon.

I have a degree in psychology and am writing several books now. C of C was one of the most fair, loving, intuitive, and kind books that I've ever seen that was written by anyone who used to be a JW. Most people just trash the WT, which any 4 year old has the brain to do. I especially liked the "apostasy" label. First, if you look up the word in the dictionary, it is anyone who has fallen away from a pervious belief, usually religious. Since most JW's were converted and not raised as JW's from infancy up, I think it's fair to say that all JW's are apostates, since they fell away from whatever religion they used to be. I strongly object to the WT's use of the word, equating it with "traitor, enemy of God, fighters against the Bible", etc. (When was the last time you saw someone in a boxing ring beating up a Bible? I mean, really!) Grow up!!! The arrogance of the WT believing that they ARE God, no matter what denials they issue to the rank and file, is insane. After the thousands of errors in their writings and prophecies, they should be ashamed to be called JW's. I'm embarrassed that I ever belonged. Ray Franz gave them far more decent treatment than they gave him, and far more than they deserved. My books will NOT be so kind. My child was raped when 9 years old and she and my wife STILL defend this sick cult. "Jehovah will fix everything in his own due time." Sorry, I'm not waiting. No offense to those who still believe, but I'm a confirmed agnostice and will remain so until my death. In my book, when you have the power to relieve suffering and you don't, and you are the ONLY one who could stop it now, you are morally responsible, criminally negligent, and I would question the sanity of any God who allows the suffering I observe every day. This leads to the assumptions that the WT makes when claiming to be God's channel. Where are the soup kitchens? Where are the vans filled with clothing that could be cruising NYC on cold days giving away old clothing to the poor, cold people living on the streets? I know my post included a few tangents, but I think people will learn more if they explore the various angles relative to the WT.

Congratulations!!!! I'm about half way through the book now, and intend to read every last bit of it (it's a long one though!!). It has helped me, as I have left the b0rg only a month and a half ago. Like others have commented, I can't see how anyone could read the book and not be severely affected by it. When I read about the brothers in Mexico not being able to pray or sing at their meetings, or carry a Bible door to door, until around 1990 because they were not known as a religious organization, but instead a "cultural" organization, so the WTS could own the properties in Mexico as a "cultural" organization, I was appalled.

I just ordered In Search of Christian Freedom, so I'll be reading that next.

These books help so many to have peace and understanding about leaving the organization. They are invaluable for our mental health after being told over and over and over that it's God's organization.......ahhhh, NOT so much!!!!!

    Love, by grace
