I actually think there may be more chance of people going on the ministry if there were no record cards

Counting time is a good way to gauge a brother's spiritual maturity. If he put's in 10+ hours a month, attends every meeting, answers at every meeting and buddies up to the other elders (as in having them over for bbq & beer) then he's definitely considered for ms. Notice that I said, counting time, not actually going out in service. That was the case with several that I have known in the past, but I do agree with Fairmind that there are many sincere dubs that would still go out for love of Jehovah.

    Some would, some wouldn't.

Even amoungst the witnesses it is generally acknowledged that housing to house witnessing is not a 'natural work'. In other words to be faithful to Jehovah we have to put aside our natural tendancies of shyness, fear of rejection, etc. Yes, a few like the field service but these are not the 'norm'.

Another, point, if there was no field service record keeping, they would find it difficult to appoint MS and elders. I no of no appointment that was ever made without having first examined a field service record. No matter how Christian the brother was, our body of elders always expected 10 hour plus before appointing as an elder, more like 12 to 14 hours if the brother had a family study (i.e. 10 hours minus 4 hours for family study = not such a good an example.)

Yes. Loyal people are just that, they are loyal.

Matt: 24.45-47 allows lattitude for the Faithful House Steward to make such a request. It is not associated with making one a public spectacle or for show.

If you were to run a rather large Business and the owners wanted you to account for where the best business opportunites are to be addressed next on the Business agenda , How would you know what to do unless or should some sort of accounting had not as yet to be submitted to your office. The same is with the MASTERS business in the Mathew account per the Faithful Slave or Fathful Steward. Time and reports similar help all of us to know whre the best manpower and lierature may be better spent. More productive.

If being loyal to the Master is too much, then you have a seroius matter to decide over. Remember Christ said to "Exert Yourself Vigoriously" to get in. And this tracking time is of no real seroius difficulty to loyal desciples of Christ. its easy to do just so.

A Dub is a JW. Say J. double U. It was shortened to J Dub and the just Dub.

As for the field service question, my mother is a very faithful dub that would definately do it even if it was not recorded. She takes every oppertunity she can to preach and she doesn't count half of it.

On the other hand, as I started to lose faith and stopped preaching my book study conducter would call and ask if I had at least one hour. When I said no he would try to help me invent something. He would ask if maybe I had spoken to a neighbor or someone else casually. He would spend several minutes each month trying to get me to remember ANYTHING I might have said that I could call preaching. My answer was always no. I would not dream of lying about it. I had even asked to be removed from the ministry school at this point. I told them that I had questions that I needed help with before I could promote something I was unsure of. But the ALL important FS report was more important than anything. Funny thing is that it was the fact that they could not count their time that they refused to study or have a sister study with me, even though I begged them to study with me to help me. I was baptized and therfore responsible for myself.

They only offered to study with me at the very end in my judicial commitee as they were accusing me of being an apostate simply for coming to them over and over with my questions. It was a true and sincere cry for help from them. I really felt they had the truth, but the child abuse thing had me stumped and they could not answer as to why it was allowed to go on.
