EvilForce, you said presumably with regard to the EU that it is "too historically tied to the US - most US citizens are Anglo-German- Irish-Italian", but you have to remember that one point, the WTS says that Nazi Germany filled the role of the King of the North. It didn't matter back then whether or not Germany was historically linked to the US. In addition, Italy and the Mussolini regime were Germany's staunchest european allies.
Using the "Daniel's Prophecy" line of reasoning, by extention, the olympic flame that is the King of the North could have been passed down from the Selucids of Judah to Nazi Germany to the European Union of which Germany forms an influencial part.
(Just like the King of the South torch has been convieniently passed from the Ptolemies of Egypt to the "Anglo-American World Power" lolol).
The one thing that may cause them trouble is the fact that the last King of the North was the now defunct Soviet Union, although i suppose they could use Lithuania or Estonia as a link between the two, (alternatively, they could use the word "UNION" as a forced connection... I've seen worse, lol).

Do the events in Daniel really have a fullfillment in our days or is it just the JWs that believe this type antitype interpretation?

greendawn, I personally believe the events in Daniel have no meaning for us. WS gives everything a greater fullfillment or says things represents things that the Bible plainly does not say. an example is Daniel chapter 4 where Daniel is saying the "Tree" represents Neb. and "seven times" is to pass over his kingdom. On page 94 of "Pay attention to Daniel's prophecy" [the book JWs are studing now] They say the tree represents God's sovereignty and page 96-97 they say the seven times is to pass over God's Kingdom. Read chapter 4 of Daniel, Daniel says nothing about God's kingdom. He said it represented Neb. and nothing else. This is the one thing that helped me to see the organization is not what it claims to be.There are so many more lies they have taught and still teaching. I was in that cult too long and waisted the best years of my life.If you disagree with the WS you are labeled an Apostate. You can not agree with the Bible if the Bible and WS conflicks. I can't remember what Watchtower it was but it stated "if you could have either the Bible or a Watchtower, you would be better off with the Watchtower". Come to think of it I believe it was an older publication that I read that.Anyway, if you don't know anything about the WS, there are pleanty of ex-JWs who have been down that road of regret.

Dora.....that wasn't me who talked about Germany etc...etc....read above it was Stillexjwelder.....

I personally think the whole king of the north / south thing to be utter crap. Forced analogies twisted to fit history. I can twist the bible to fit so many different views it's pathetic. In many previous posts I've used scripture to justify many things as a mental excercise. Take scripture and use it to justify the ridiculous position I'm taking. You'll get to see many instances of this if you stick around the board from EvilForce....LOL.

Welcome to the board by the way.

I'm a taoist / buddhist / christian mix....and usually in that order. I'm about 15% christian belief now on a good day.

Maybe all those nasty multi-national corporations can become the king of the north. Makes as much sense as anything else.

You only have to watch the Eurovision Song Contest to find out everything you need to know about the E.U.

Spain vote for Portugal, Portugal votes for Spain, Slovenia votes for Croatia, Hungary votes for Slovakia, Romania votes for the Ukrane, ISRAEL is in it???? and nobody votes for the UK. I rest my case.

I learned that some people in Europe shouldn't be allowed to sing.

It's interesting to speculate on what the WT might speculate in the future. :)

Unfortunately the Watchtower abandoned a pretty good interpretation of Daniel. The USA is still pushing Russia. At least Putin thinks so. The policy of encirclement of Russia is still in place. The USA is playing its old game in the former Soviet Union Republics. The elites in Russia believe the USA is out to break them up into smaller countries.

The two principal rivals are still the US and Russia. They continue to wave their nuclear capabilities in each others faces. Look at a map. There is nothing North of Russia. Stretching accross 11 time zones it dominates the northern tier of the World Island (Asia, Europe, Africa, Middle-East) - indeed the King (ruler) of the North.

Russia has good relations with all the "axis of evil" countries. Russia leads the call for a multi-polar world which really means a world without the USA (Babylon the Great) dominanting it.

Expect to see some kind of world situation where Russia reasserts its authority over its former republics (10 kings who have not received a kingdom except for confederacy with Wild Beast Rev. 17:12) Most likely Russia will explode a nuclear device in New York City - allowing the blame to be placed on Islamic Terrorists. This will be the perfect opportunity for Russia to make the case for a new political entity on the Former Soviet Space.

The EU repudiation of the constitution works for the good of Russia. If you were to ask the average European to state their nationality they would say French, German, Spanish, Italian - NOT European. The EU is primarily a economic union. They remain separate entitites.

I agree with a lot, but not all, of what you're saying proplog2. The Soviet Union is dead. Democratic Russia in fact now celebrates the 24th of August 1991 as its independance day FROM the Soviet Union. I dont think the Russian Federation would even think of trying to restart the Soviet regime and take back its former satellite states. In fact 3 of those states are now in the European Union and some of the others are applying for admittance in the near future. Russia would fare badly if it tried to go up against the EU's economic might.

National identities in the EU do take precedent and always will. This is because of the historical factors involved (past and present conflict) and because of esoteric cultural identities (language for example); but having lived in France for some time and also having close friends in Slovakia, i really do sence a growing "European" identity, especially from young people such as students who travel around Europe for their education... The proposed adoption of a single European foreign policy, permanent President, European Army and a revived Constitution will only add to the merging effects that have already resulted from the single currency (Euro), the flag, national anthem (Ode to Joy), Internet country code (".eu" effective this year), motto, ambassador and abolition of national borders (Schengen Agreement). Here in France, wherever the French flag is flown, on government or non-government buildings the European flag is flown with equal status. The European identity is strongly percieved especially in the newer, eastern member states. The EU is not a country, it is a primarily economic and political union, so it seems that the citizens themselves would be less likely to express their nationality in its terms. However, it does seem that a palpable "Europe-as-opposed-to-America" trend seems to be setting in, although it may not be going as far as Winston Churchill's famous "United States of Europe" warning.

The CIA World Factbook says: The evolution of the European Union from a regional economic agreement among six neighboring states in 1951 to today's supranational organization of 25 countries across the European continent stands as an unprecedented phenomenon in the annals of history[...]it has many of the attributes associated with independent nations: its own flag, anthem, founding date, and currency, as well as an incipient common foreign and security policy in its dealings with other nations. In the future, many of these nation-like characteristics are likely to be expanded. Thus, inclusion of basic intelligence on the EU has been deemed appropriate as a new, separate entity in The World Factbook. However, because of the EU's special status, this description is placed after the regular country entries.

The world is a different place to how it was 20 or even 10 years ago, it is also a less predictable place. This is why i sence the Watchtower's increasing reluctance to commit itself to a solid theory on the King of the North debate.
