Why do active witnesses frequent the site?

Anyway it was enough to convinve me there was no holy spirit involved, just a bunch of elders [men] rewarding the right "works".

I can relate. I never felt any type of spirit during any JW activities. I've since concluded that there is no 'spirit' to feel, so I was looking for something that doesn't exist.

And who are these elders to 'reward' or reprimand anyone for their actions?

That's the biggest problem I have with this cult, and if I'm not mistaken it's justified in the Bible. Therefore I shun Christianity as a whole.

    Hi Ballistic

Prior to watching the most worldly one of our age group [an elders son] get appointed as an MS I was one of those poor deceived "truthful" witnesses. I didn't want to beleive that a show of works [so he could date an elders daughter] would work. Our 'trick' was to emulate his example - and it worked. I'm glad it got me thinking, if the internet can get others thinking thats great.

Actually my question is retorical; if active witnesses are visitng this site they must already have the dreaded "appostate" state of mind, certainly they are not following the advice to avoid the internet, so are already straying so to speak. If they have viewed this and other similar sites, and assuming something gets through years of "bible study", how can they with a clear concience still preach?

Using the word study in association with what the JW's do is an insult to all who actually study. Scripted questions, that have obvious answers in the related text, with no oportunity to explore beyond those bounds is not study. It is very effective brain washing, which when combined with the frequent association with other JW's, and issolation from the world, works all too well. When combined with constant reminders to just trust Jehovah and an ever brightening light, and the fear of now loosing your remaining friends [curouasly they are soon almost exlusively other JW's], and any family who may also belong, you are locked in even if you have doubts.

Even now people who basically havn't been witnesses for years are afraid of being identified, in case the JW's formally disfellowship them, and make any relationship with remaing JW family more difficult. How sad.

True. I got a surprise a few years back to find that three or four of my Book Study Group were posting alongside me on JWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Despite this, not all have really left the borg. Weird, ain't it? Personally I don't see the point in their continuing to go the KH but they do. Clearly they haven't found any belief system to replace what they had in the borg so that although they can see what's 'wrong' with the WTS, still they've been duped into the "where else have we to go?" thing that the WT has indoctrinated them in. Sad.

    Hello All !

Do you remember how you felt there had to be more to life?

And then the JWs came with a message that seemed to fill that void.

But then the light got brighter, and you realised thelr was more, or maybe you found out somthing about the borg , to make a

short story long, the borg controls your spirituality by putting limits on it.

So for those of us who are really searching for truth there can be no limits to our search for it.

The elders came to my house about a month ago concerned with research i was doing on the other books mention in the bible (Enoch/Jasher ect.)

Well they weren't happy with my research, and one of them made the comment " So what, you think were in kindergarden? and you've progressed beyond us ?" my responce " those are your words not mine." the point is that the WTS limits spirituality and more.

So for some, i'd say their here to learn and others to unload the crap the WTS has piled on us for so long.

    Kind Regards

There is clearly no Holy Spirit in the GB or the R & F that's why they don't produce the works of the spirit I can't imagine why they insist so much that they are directed by the Spirit a people without love or compassion.

Nobody else understood what I was on about.

Ellie they understood you alright...they just didnt want to hear...you can take a horse to water but you cant make it drink.

deep down gut feeling that something is wrong

Black Swan, I agree with you here...most do...most have questions that they are too frightened to ask; here they can come and get those answers in secret without being identified.

When you ask a child not to put his hand in the fire more often than not they can see the sense in the request; but when as an adult you are asked not to consider other peoples viewpoints and not to challenge the teachings you are spoonfed, you might initially not question such a request but our minds being naturally enquiring lead us to do so eventually dependent of course upon your mindset and how much you have been indoctrinated to believe that all the WTS are telling us is for OUR benefit.

I welcome active JWs, test your beliefs...test the watchtower and see whether it is indeed good.

    Good thread.

I'm somewhat currious why active witnesses appear to frequent the site, and if the information on this site causes any to "fade away" or "dis-associate"?

This very same question is asked by many in the yahoo jw/ exjw chatroom. We've yet to get any satisfactory reply from any jw there.

My theory on this, and also what I exclaim in the chatroom, is that the internet is for many of them, a safer haven and/ or a safer 'playground' that offline, is forbidden.

No jw would do offline, what many of them do online. Simple.

In turn, the more time they willingly spend associating with apostates and opposers ONLINE, NOT OFF, the evidence, as has been shown over the last year in the chatroom, shows their spiritual decay...daily. One by one.

Granted, many jws have not willingly logged in to associate and have went elsewhere. Kudos to them!

In my opinion, most jws who frequent such activity online are misfits in their cong or dfed, inactive or disassociated but still kiss Mother Watchtowers ass for various reasons.

I've concluded that active, loyal, dedicated (baptized) in-good-standing jws, simply do not tread where any type of apostate activity is heavy.

I know that I was still going to the odd meeting when I started peering into this website ... with a lot of guilt attached.

Once I allowed myself to come on this site, my progress outta the borg sped forward. And I let go of the guilt ... Useless emotion.

As was previously mentioned, what is the point of free will if we are not allowed to exercise it or question things? All part of the jw brainwash, I figure.

Sheep to the slaughter ... that's what the dubs want ... errr besides cash, of course ...

Great comments on this thread!! I'd just like to add a story that illustrates why some stay or even return to the Borg after seeing an avenue of escape. Many years ago I happened to visit friends in the states who lived next door to their son, an avid 'coon hunter. He had chanced upon a trapped raccoon in his travels and brought it home where he put it in a tiny wooden cage at the side of his garage. I happened to see it there and felt horrified that this wild animal was being kept in such a pitifully small box, all alone without access to water, nothing to climb on, exposed to the elements. Their son used this coon as a live-bait training device for his hunting dogs...they got to sniff the cage and terrorize the trapped animal, snapping and lunging at it as the cage lay on the ground in the midst of the pack. It made me sick but there was nothing I could do about it as the cage was locked and visible from the house. A long time later my friend told me "Oh, by the way that coon you were so concerned about? Well, it got out, someone forgot to lock the cage. It was gone all day, came back in the night we guess and was sitting inside when we found it next morning". Powerful proof that creatures of habit will always return to what they know best. That coon thought he would rather take his chances with what he knew because he didn't know where else to go. Hopefully the JW lurkers will begin to see they have another place to go, there's a whole community of ex-jw's out here and we understand their fears and their sense of dislocation very well. Unlike that little raccoon we don't believe we have to put up with abuse and be kept in captivity to fill the needs of a demented group of old men running their own secret experiments in mind control at our expense.
