the funny thing is, that everything is a sign of "the end is very near", no matter what happens.
if everything runs fine and people are added to the congregation, they'd say "look how jehovah blesses the work, soon every sheep will be in and the end will come".
if everything runs horrible, people leave and the brothers are corrupt, they'd say "now that even in jehovah's people things like that happen, the end must be very near".
NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS - there's ALWAYS a prophecy to be fulfilled.

Something similar along those lines with JW's who leave. I recall a guy who was DF'd, his wife left him, buisness went bust, because many of his customers where JW's. The JW's of course where going round saying "See what happens when you leave Jehovah's organisation, Satan drags you down."
The guy spent the next 5 years building a buisness back up again. It fact he is now more successful than before, very wealthy in fact. What do the JW's say now. "See leave Jehovah's organisation, and Satan makes you a success in the world so you won't come back"

It is indeed so stupid how everything can be bended in 'the end is really near'
When there are reports about the growth, they say 'oh it is so clear in we live in the time of the end".
When we finally had decrease in my country, everybody said: "now we are sure the end is near, can't be long anymore"

The congregation phone lists are for the servant body only. Elders and M.S. Not every congregation has one but most do. They are the most outdated, poorly maintained document ever conceived. Everytime you call someone you have to update their record. If you have one it no doubt has chicken scratches all over it as publishers move and change numbers frequently it seems.

That's because they are all trying to fade. Surprise surprise.

Roy:
The phone list thing was popular here, too.Ironically the C.O.s used to have a list of all POs created, and circulated amongst all POs in the Circuit (I know, as I used to create it for them).
As for addresses and numbers in the cong., they're all on file with the Publisher Record Cards, anyhow (used to be cong. Sec., too).Oh what mischief those nasty government men could get up to, if only they knew that information

In my congo, they always talked about that 'we have preached the the farthest ends of the Earth' so the End is upon us. That use to scare the crap out of me, making me go to Service more.
What a dope.
Off topic: How do the elders reply to people saying 'their happier' after leaving the Organization?
