Voting on the Governing Body due to advanced age

I think we need to remember that most of the GB are about ready to kick the bucket, and that effects the way they will try to steer the organization because they have the majority of the vote they are not thinking very long term.

They must know all thier failed predictions and that the end is not really close,, so really they are concerned only about thier own a$$es and want to have a nice position of power and prestiegde up until they die. They really don't give a rat ass what happens to the Org or the publishers when they are dead and gone. The younger ones(minority) may have concerns that stretch a little more into the future, but only as far as they personally will live.

If we keep in mind the advanced age of these men we may better understand thier voting patern, which should reflect each ones private concerns.

Five are quite young (seems that way compared to my age of 53)

Sam Herd is 70 this year

Gerrit Losch is 64 this year

David Splane is 61 this year

Guy Pierce is 71 this year

Stephen Lett is 56 this year

    and

Ted Jaracz is 80 this year

Al Schroeder is 94 this year

Dan Sydlik is 86 this year

Carey Barber is 100 this year.

Jack Bar is 92 this year.

Considering the first 5 were added within the last 10 years, it may be very likely that there are other replacement anointed JWs at Bethel or COs and DOs that have put their time in with the company that could be selected to be on the GB. I've been told that they were hand-picked by Ted Jaracz and GB members tend to follow the voting pattern of other GB members and Ray Franz indicated in his books. I don't expect a shakeup. I have seen whole elder bodies replaced and it just settles down to the SOS. Blondie

Thanks Blondie for the break down. If everybody is hand picked by Ted lets hope he's the first of the GB to meet the grim reaper, perhaps that might save a lot of lives and allow some more humitarian types on the body.

Just looking at what Blondie post in a little different type of catagory:

We have 7, at 70 or older this year and 3 under 70 this year.

Now look at they way the Governing Body are getting more hard line, do you see why? To me it is because the vast majority of voting power is with the old group, they know they are going to die in the not too distant future and so a hard line while it may cause a big loss eventually, both in publishers and court cases the older ones would rather take the short term benifits of this course knowing or hoping that when the full effect are felt they will most likely be dead so it don't matter that much to them, I'm sure if we could peak in on thier voting record we would see this to be true.

Perhaps the younger ones ages 56, 61, and 64 would like thing to be less hard line but may fear getting the older ones who are in power at the moment,, angry or suspicious, and so may not offer any resistance or perhaps just a little done with extreme care and diplomacy.

I think this may offer a plausible explanation as to the current and persistant trend of the GB towards the hard line. Perhaps a good fortune of timely deaths due to natural causes may bring about a more kinder GB, one can only hope.

According to Ray Franz's books things won't change. Replacements are in the "same mold" as the predecessor's. The "politics" of the borg always seem to ebb and flow a little but never see true reform. I believe more of the same is to come. There are plenty of hardliners in the borg left to be used for replacements. Cult mindsets already in place require it.

    Bav,

I agree with you. They only pick those that have the same mind, especially now because they don't want anybody on the body to appose them. But if there were many more younger ones say less than 60 years old there could be more of a possiblity for more kindness and mercy, instead the crabby old timers will continue to push for the harsher hard liner policies.

Ray Franz tried to shake things up a bit when he was there, but to no avail, he got the boot. I think once you in you in.

But hopefully if 3 or more of the GB want to take the softer line then they can vote that way. Strange though that they do not ask the Holy Spirit to vote for them.

Always wanted to know what happens to the money? do some of the GB enjoy the takings? or is it all tied up with the Society?

Well done Blondie, I just spent 20 minutes researching ages of the G B , in order to repond to a thread about Carey Barber, but we only needed to ask Blondie !

I thought this may relevant , however

    · How does the Governing Body differ from a legal corporation?

While directors of a legal corporation are voted into office by its members, the Governing Body is not appointed by any man but is appointed by Jesus Christ. There is no need for the directors of various corporations used by Jehovah’s Witnesses to be members of the Governing Body. At the recent annual meeting of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, members of the Governing Body who were serving as its directors and officers voluntarily stepped aside from their positions. The vacancies were filled by mature brothers of the "other sheep." (John 10:16) Thus the Governing Body can spend more time in preparing spiritual food and in otherwise caring for the spiritual needs of the worldwide brotherhood.—1/15, pages 29, 31.

We should not forget that "The Society" is run by a different set of directors and managers overseers to the GB. I would guess it is them that deal with the administration of the multi million dollar printing company. The oldies on the G B are simply there to "care for the spritual needs"

    Thanks Blues, for the quote.

What I would like to know is what in the hell do they mean by:

Thus the Governing Body can spend more time in preparing spiritual food and in otherwise caring for the spiritual needs of the worldwide brotherhood.—1/15, pages 29, 31.

What in the hell does that mean talk about being vague? These guys probably need 15 to 16 hour of sleep per day they are so old, let alone them trying to care "for the spiritual needs of the worldwide brotherhood". Talk about a load of shit,, this statement is one for sure.

If I was over 70 and had to carry the work load the GB is expect to, I'd be pretty cranky, they should be retired and enjoying the few remaining year they have left the work load is way too much for these old geasers. I think that also might explain thier hard line policies, they are a bunch of overworked retirees, no wonder why they lack compassion, they are exausted and irritable, who wouldn't be at thier advanced age, most of them belong in a nursing home not looking after some "worldwide brotherhood". Give me a break!

The thing is ... these newer GB members are merely regurgitating the stuff from the old guard.

If any of you have heard Lett or Loesch give talks ... they sound so completely out of touch and such followers of the old guard. None of them seem to in any way have the same haughtiness of Schroeder, Sydlik, Jaracz, Franz, Rutherford, Knorr, etc.

I have a gut feeling these guys are scared sh*tless about what to do when the old guard is not around anymore for guidance. I'm not saying the Society is gonna crumble away - but I just get a feeling they are nothing more than a product of a flawed system.

Speaking of Jaracz .... funny story ... when I was a Bethelite and I first saw Jaracz on the monitors at breakfast conducting "Morning Worshit" I was not aware that he was a Governing Body member. I do remember thinking he had a cold, soul-less, and evil looking eyes. And his comments on the day's text always seemed both guarded and accusatory. Frankly, as a new Bethelite he gave me the creeps.

To hear that he is now the current figurehead for the Society is very scary indeed.
