No big surprise to me. Iran has always been the hot spot for fundamentalism. Luckily, we in Canada have a much broader media coverage that is less propaganda-oriented, and we have been aware of this for quite some time.

It's interesting to note that the word of the government does not always accurately reflect the feelings of the masses. (hehe, does that sound familiar? it's the same here in the west)

Many of the younger people there boycotted the elections, because they did not like the anti-American stance of the government ... though fundamentalism rules, the younger population is NOT in favour of Islamic militarism .. let's hope that GWB does not jump the gun once again, instead of taking the diplomatic route ...

BTW, where is Osama bin Laden? ... lol (though it's really not funny)

Those religious leaders put Iran back to the Middle Ages and it will be better for the younger generation if they manage to get rid of them. The religious Moslems believe that Islam is superior and deserves to conquer the world.

"The era of oppression, hegemonic regimes, tyranny and injustice has reached its end."

Allies of Ahmadinejad said the president-elect, who takes office in August, would seek to revive the principles of the Islamic revolution in 1978. They said Ahmadinejad would also seek to impose Islamic behavior in public, including strict enforcement of a dress code.

Yeah, that will go over real well. This may, Allah willing, be a desperate attempt by the ruling mullahs to restore control.

Here's to the mullahs getting the mussolini treatment

Looks like this will give the Bush admistration a good reason to invade Iran. Like Jon Steward says we invaded the wrong country by one letter.

    ROFLMAO!

    Elsewhere,

An American hostage is displayed to a crowd outside the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, on Nov. 9, 1979. The terrorist at right has been identified as Mahmood Ahmadinejad, the new President of Iran.AP

I understood as of this morning that his identity had not as yet been verified, though according to Reuters, the White House has 'strong suspicion' that it is him, but were not absolutely sure.

It probably is him, but given the track record of the White Houses' strong suspicions the past few years, I will await a more reliable source of information.
