Had a very interesting local needs part last nite - warning against apostate activity in our area, as well as the dangers of the Internet. The elder giving the talk discussed how he googled "watchtower" and a whole boatload of sites came up, such as Silent Lambs, etc. "We need to stay away from these. None of them are true!! There is nothing that has been said from this platform that has ever brought anyone lasting harm! (what??!!) Everything that has been said fromthis platform is the TRUTH!!" (double what??!!) It was kind of amusing/entertaining to listen to. And of course, I was waiting for him to make direct eye contact iwth me andsay "we know YOU have been visiting those sites!!" But that didn't happen. Haven't had a chance to talk to my hubby yet, waiting for the right opportunity. My point will simply be - if the truth is the truth, it will stand up for itself. What are they so afraid of? If these sites aretelling lies, won't we be able to recognize them for what they are??

Welcome! I am 3rd gen X 33 year exjw and i have heard all the subterfuges.

My fav is that 'evil slave' aka 'apostate' info are HALF-TRUTHS

Does this mean the one half of the information IS true?

Moreover, does this mean than only one half of JC returned to power in 1914?

    perplexing indeed

    Welcome Hope

Good point IF these sites are telling lies , wont we be able to recognise them for what they are...... the truth does stand up for itself the JW's just haven't got it.

do hope you get to talk to your hubby real soon............he sounds like a cool guy.

How well do you know this elder? Sounds like he is apostate himself and trying to get the word out.

    This is explicit direction IMO.

    Hmmmmm............

You are from Wisconsin, as am I.

2 weeks ago (before the convention) my husband and I sent a huge manilla envelope to a pesky elder who keeps forming JC's to get our apostate Silent Lambs sticker off our mailbox. In it I I had the whole 1914 change, the UN, mentioned how his opinions had destroyed families (and gave examples), and I even threw in a little Brave New World and 1984.

Oh, and said that I HIGHLY recommend the books by Ray Franz.

Ended it by saying that I knew he would throw it all away, so I was sending a copy to someone else, and not telling him who it was so he couldn't make trouble for that person. (Hey, I'm shunned-I have no one who cares to send it to, but it sure will mess with his head by wondering why no one comes forward!!!)

So....do ya think that maybe this talk?.........Nah........couldn't be..........but yet.....????

Do not be lulled into a false sense of security and take it for granted that what you hear from a pulpit is automatically the truth because it is uttered in the name of religion.

Wouldn't it be ironic if he had googled his name along with "watchtower" and had it show up in the Silent Lambs website?

I find that elders only tell the part of the "story" that they wanted us to hear, but leave out information that might be embarrassing to them.

Not that this elder actually *did* that... but it is a possibility.
