OFC and Frog, it's great that the activities of certain dedicated individuals have done a great deal to expose the WTS hypocritical organisation.

It seems as though the media themselves are not really interested in projecting other significant aspects such as the breaking of families or the depression suffered by an unusually high percentage of the jws and the cruelties of shunning.

Perhaps some ex jws can prepare a revealing documentary and try to air it with a news chanel I am sure it would be very interesting to the general public.

The mass media don't separate out the abuse issue by individual religions. They see the RC, JW, Mormon, etc., as one issue. By far, the RC has the greater number of cases (just more RCs folks) and the legal issues affecting their situation transfer directly to the situation in the WTS, LDS, Baptists, etc.

In order to get media coverage, people have come forward through the legal system. The media are looking for verifiable cases and that means a possible legal basis. If you check the SNAP website, you will see that is how they get media coverage, active, ongoing cases against the Catholic Church. The media re abuse the WTS have almost always been the result of a legal case, a JW or ex-JW coming forth publicly to pursue their case legally.

If you would like to see more JW cases publicly and you were abused by a JW or had the BOE in your congregation mishandle your case, contact Love and Norris, attorneys handling JW and ex-JW abuse cases.

Its simply because JWs are only a minor religion. They don't exactly “shine” there for the whole world to see i.e. not recognized globally as a moral authority such as Catholic Church.

Your idea of doing a documentary is a great one.

There is a campaign under way to contact the media in towns hosting district conventions this summer. If it's a slow news day, they might mention something about it in the local news. Silent lambs has advocacy materials, even a downloadable poste--which would be a great thing for people to put up around their communities if they're in a district convention town. AJWRB does a lot too.

I've put up a web site, wrote 2 books, joined AJWRB, etc. Promoting the site and books in itself is a great anti-witness. I've talked on many non-jw forums about the dangers of the borg too. I've mailed stuff out and will be putting up some posters around my community too.

Ding ding ding we have a winner. Only when you get out of the org and look at it from the outside do you see that they are not as well known as they like to think. I think I saw somewhere that in the US they are like 0.39% of the population (that may not be exact). A bunch of (for the most part) law abiding folks who keep to themselves wont get exposure.

A documentary would be great. Just showing people how strange they are would prove to be interesting. It might make for some Sundance Film Festival fun.

Here religion is not news, people are news. Most former Witnesses don't go public. I will say when former Witnesses go to the papers and the tv stations with their names and faces telling their stories, those stories will be reported, no problem.
The Watch Tower attorneys don't intimidate the media from personal first hand experience.

So ex jws need to be more active in making known their stories and enlightening the public, instead they tend to be inert.

I notice many people on this board got atrociously treated by the WTS and their stories could make very interesting reading for the general public.

    They have Jehovah's blessing...that's why.

That and they brainwash you that you can't take your bro to court and "drag J's name through the mud".

By the time you figure it out... it's too far gone and you don't really care.

u/d (of the leave them alone or they'll just claim persecution class)

U/d I suppose that conditioning does play on the mind but as for the "persecution" they can always come and offer to the public their side of the story which then hardly makes it an act of persecution to expose their dirty deeds publicly.

Some people produced films that proved very successful with minimal expense the Blair witch project I believe, and the guy who did the study on eating fast food at Mac Donalds.

A well written script could do wonders.
