What do these lyrics mean to you?

Child in Time - Deep Purple
    (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice)

Sweet child in time, you'll see the line
The line that's drawn between, the good and the bad
See the blind man, shooting at the world
    Bullets flying, taking toll
If you've been bad, Oh Lord I bet you have
And you've not been hit by flying lead
You'd better close your eyes, and bow your head
    And wait for the ricochet

Reading those the music comes to my mind... Not heard it since the early 70's, before my family became JWs and declared the autodafe of "worldly music".

At that time most English lyrics were pretty mysterious to me. Nice song though -- and nice lyrics too now that I can read them.

I reckon it's saying that although some learn right from wrong (sweet child), others don't (blind man) and therefore they don't give a damn who they hurt (shooting at the world...).

The last 4 lines have a recognition that nobodys perfect (...I bet you have) and some people think they can get away with it (not been hit by flying lead) but in the end justice comes around - sometimes from unexpected sources (the ricochet).

Deep stuff from Deep Purple - cool band!

    I quit!

I alway went for the deeper things Deep Purple wrote like:

You came for a weekend but you only stay for one night

You pulled off your hair you took out your teeth

    I almost died of fright.

I think that is how it went.
