Does anyone really believe the bible? I see little evidence that people put its counsel to work in their lives, no matter what religion.

When one thinks about it, No they do not .

Despite the fact that the sign on Brooklyn factory says "Read Gods word the bible daily" and they always say that they believe it, but :-

Who decides what is literally true and what is "symbolic"? eg Rev 7.1 - 3 [symbolic]. vs4 first phrase (144000)[ literal]. second phrase and rest of chapter [symbolic]

They believe in creation as in Gen chapt 1. but not a creative day with an evening and a morning , as in vs 5

They are Christians who will not follow Christ to heaven.

Yes, It is the message according to the WTS that matters, strung together with a few scriptual references.

A friend of mine was an elder who reasoned on the scriptures to make a family deciision re his daughter, that was not quite in line with Wt policy .. he is not an elder any more!

During this District Assembly season let us all hope, then that the questioning JW, the doubtful JW, the truthful JW and all those JW's who are really seeking truth will return home after 3 days of getting their hopes and dreams for a New World before they or their parents die shredded to pieces by the apostates on the Governing Body will start thinking about some of the following scriptures and how they really apply to each individual JW:

    *** Rbi8 Matthew 24:15-16 ***
15 “Therefore, when YOU catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place, (let the reader use discernment,) 16 then let those in Ju·de'a begin fleeing to the mountains.

    *** Rbi8 Mark 13:14 ***
14 “However, when YOU catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation standing where it ought not (let the reader use discernment), then let those in Ju·de'a begin fleeing to the mountains.

    *** Rbi8 Revelation 18:4-8 ***
4 And I heard another voice out of heaven say: “Get out of her, my people, if YOU do not want to share with her in her sins, and if YOU do not want to receive part of her plagues. 5 For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind. 6 Render to her even as she herself rendered, and do to her twice as much, yes, twice the number of the things she did; in the cup in which she put a mixture put twice as much of the mixture for her. 7 To the extent that she glorified herself and lived in shameless luxury, to that extent give her torment and mourning. For in her heart she keeps saying, ‘I sit a queen, and I am no widow, and I shall never see mourning.’ 8 That is why in one day her plagues will come, death and mourning and famine, and she will be completely burned with fire, because Jehovah God, who judged her, is strong.

Do The JW's Really Believe The Bible?

In some parts - by discounting other parts they are able to believe in some of it in the manner that they choose to understand those particular bits

The bible as a whole ? No. Indeed they even claim to be atune to the "mistakes"

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Reminds me

    • God sends upon them a strong delusion, to make them believe what is false
    • eyes that should not see and ears that should not hear
    • even the demons believe, and shudder

Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Governing Body speaks for God and reading the Bible should only been done in moderation and only WITH Watchtwer literature which (ironically enough) is supposed to explain what God Himself was not capable of explaining when he caused the Bible to be written.

That's about it. And I didn't make this up. Ray Franz himself related that the GB members told people in Bethel not to spend too much time just studying the Bible.

"They believe in the bible as interpreted by the Watchtower".

And the WTS has this diabolical talent of making the bible say anything they want it to say, they can always find in it justification for their ideas and behaviour.
