Samson was a mildly reworked solar deity. Even the name means 'sun'. All the elements in the story are solar worship motifs. The long hair represented the sun's vital rays the eyes represented the source of light. These rays being lost and eyes bored out meant the death (solar cycle often described as death and revitalization) of the sun. The honey being gold color, the foxes being red, and of course fire, were also associated with solar deity stories. Even the jawbone shape of the weapon and his being a ladies man seem related to these solar myths. Even many theologians have accepted this transparent commandeering of myth.

God "Uhhh. looks like hes trapping foxes"
Jesus "what for?"
God "Looks like he wants to burn down their fields"
Jesus "With foxes?"
God "Yup"
Jesus "But foxes dont.."
God "Nevermind! Gabriel!"
GAbriel "Yes Sir!"
God "Get down there and help Samson with those foxes or this will take forever"
Gabriel "But Sir, I could easily smite the whole lot and burn all the fi..."
