The last time I read the bible ( for the first time since I was 18 ) was in 1999 at my JC meeting when I was 23. The loving elders made me read the scripture aloud about being stoned to death for fornication. This was meant to show me that their decision to D/F me was a loving one as they, This is a direct quote "were allowing me to live".
I have not picked up a bible since.

About 1 year ago I gave a wedding talk for my friends disfellowshipped mom. In that talk I had to read a couple scriptures out of the Bible for her. I thought I was going to burst into flames or something as I read them. I despise Christianity in all forms now, and felt like a sell-out as I was reading the verses. After I was done I grabbed myself an ice cold Coors Light, and took the Bible ripped it up and threw it in the trash. That was the last time I read or held a Bible.

For the most part the elders in my old KH were good men, just very ill equipped to deal with any social/emotional problems. It's a shame that they don't get counselling skills.

Holy crap Damselfly, that is really cold. What a bunch of self rightous jerks. Don't worry because what goes around comes around we can live comfortably when they are being persecuted for worshipping a false God. The day we have to sign political cards or something of that nature I'm gonna smile as I do it.
