For any serious study, the Revised Standard Version is most useful (RSV, not the NRSV).
For an easy-to-read version, I would get the Revised English Bible:

The RSV is a highly accurate and ecumenically accepted translation.
The REB is a dynamic translation done by the finest scholars at Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
I have a few versions now: I keep the NWT & Interlinier version for research & comparisson. I also have the King James, The NIV, and another greek version (plus greek dictionary) I'm also planning to get the old testament in hebrew - I've already seen the bible - it's HUGE.......got to get a hebrew dictionary too now.
I just bought the NIVand plan to get RSV and Phillips as well. It was Raymond Franz who told me in an e-mail that one should have different copies to compare.Thanks Yvonne
