Carol, I don't show up for the field service meeting, I have'nt been to one in at least a year. The sister would actually be picking me up at my home at six in the morning. I really would not feel right making her get up and drive to my place and then not go out. By the way I'm surprised that my elders have not said a thing about me going out in service since I'm not at meetings on a regular basis, but then again they have never shown any concern about me before, why start now ?

Are you serious? We used to go out at five, but now six is the "the new five". Surely there are others here who got up at four to go out at five right?

Someone probably told them to "encourage" you. Blech.

Why in the world do you start at 6? I never did street witnessing, but I'm fairly sure there's not that many people around at that hour on a weekend. Are they trying to reach prostitutes and homeless people?

I live in Los Angeles and we have a ton of bus stops and laundry places that are full of people at five and six in the morning. I could normally place between twenty and thirty mags doing this from five until eight thirty. I don't believe I've ever met a prostitute in service but I was the only one in the car group that would talk to homeless people (hey the needed the truth too). Doing street work at five and six in the morning is not uncommon in my area I always thought that most congregations had people going out at those times. Is this abnormal in other parts of the country ?

I grew up in the San Franciso Bay Area and no I've never heard of anyone going out to field service at 6 in the morning but I did grow up in the suburbs. Maybe that's normal for the city?

Greetings Lola. 6 am is early but can be pretty standard in dubland. If someone is doing weekend 6am work you know they're just doing laundromats and gas stations and 7-11s. Hardcore dubs do 6am streetwork on commuting days.

I doubt, unless she was asked to make arrangements with you by the elders, that she would report back that you cancelled on her. They already view you as weak and half expect you to not follow through. Sad but true. Next time you're asked don't say yes, just say let me check my schedule and call you if I can. Then you're not in this position.

Do you have family that you're fading for? Fading is tough. Sitting there and listening to that garbage and feeling sick to your stomach. It's tough, but it has its rewards.

    Good luck.

If you're doing a slow fade, you're best off to make an occasional appearance. However, make it the "worst service day of your life". Pack the wrong magazines, forget your bible, bring last year's daily text, forget your RV book, pack the Knowledge book instead of the Reasoning book, etc etc. Be creative! Obviously, you won't be prepared, so she can do all the talking.
