Um I just found that site Watchtower observer by Kent. First off I thought it was really great, all the info there and so easy to to find. But when I got to the subliminal images part. Well I just don't see it. I have my book with me and I am trying to see it but I just don't I did see the face in Jesus' hair but only after I turned it upside down. If these images truly exist and are intentional what do the JW have to gain by doing this? Why would they put these pics there and wouldn't they put them right side up??? Just wondering peoples views.

I agree with you on this. In particular, just what would be the benefit to them in doing this, even if it did have some real effect on people?

In any complex pattern (such as a painting, illustration, or photos of the surface of Mars), you can always find things that look like other things. Our pattern-seeking brain helps this along by seeing faces and other images in what is really random patterns. Except, of course, for that image of Jesus that appeared in the reflections of a car dealership in New Jersey - that was real. And so was the image of Jerry Garcia I once saw in a burnt tortilla.

They may be fun to look at, but I don't take the idea of subliminal messages very seriously.

tat, from my experience, one doesn’t find the Watchtower Observer site…it jumps out of the bushes and hits you with a length of two by four. All you have to do is inquire…there’s plenty of aspirin to go around afterward.

Perhaps you should take some photos of your tats, TattooGirl, and then we can see if there're any subliminal pics contained therein. LOL

Q: How do you know a Dub loyal to "Jehovah's Organisation" is lying?
    A: Their lips are moving.

    tattoogrl333,

This is a subject that comes up on exJW boards occasionally; I've seen it discussed many times over the years. No resolution ever comes of it. Those who see subliminals continue to see them. Those who don't think it's all just so much pictures-in-the-clouds type of thing.

I'm in the latter camp. I knew several members of the Art Dept. at Bethel, and was all over the department at various times, seeing things that no tour group ever see. I've seen many of the artworks as they begin their life: large paintings that eventually get reduced down to little 3-inch magazine fillers. Things that "appear" in the 3-inch versions are not in the full-sized version at all. In fact, you lose an incredible amount of detail in the reduction (3-feet down to 3-inches is a big reduction). If you ever see the originals, you'll see how much you are missing in the magazines.

So whereas I'm sure it is possible that some artist, at some time, did play a prank, I doubt it's a regular feature of the art. It's just too hard to predict what that fold of a robe will look like once it's drastically reduced in size. And since humans have the amazing ability to perceive order in chaos (i.e. cloud images), I think it's mostly coincidence.

I haven't looked at those pictures in quite a while and will have to go back to see them. But, I do remember one issue of the Watch Tower that had either Adam's or Eve's hair in the shape of a lion, no big religious message, just a big lion head with mane. It was far to detailed to have just been a mistake. I don't look for those patterns, and don't notice them usually, but my brother pointed it out to me at the time and I believe it was put there as some kind of prank by an artist. I remember in psych 101 seeing the pictures of the wine glass and it could be seen as two faces kissing also. I imagine those guys doing the art work get pretty bored with all the phoney paradise scenes, get fed up with the hypocrisy of Bethel and enjoy playing a trick. I guess they think they are just too slick to get caught at it or else they didn't care.
