I got an original 1/1/89 WT - which says that the end would come before 2000 - before they changed it in subsequent Bound Volumes and CD-Rom w/out telling anyone.

I also got a 1969 (purple cover) Kingdom Interlinear. It is the one with the blatant Mantey misquotes - you know - the ones that he fired off a letter regarding and demanded they remove mention of him and a public apology.

Just thought I would share ...

I have that Interlinear! Do you know where I can find the Mantey info? I'd like to copy it and tuck it inside.

I kept very few WT hardcopies. But I kept the one from the 70's where they claimed to be prophets. You know, the one where they have to backpeddle by saying "Acting as a prophet is not the same as being a prophet."

    I love that one.

    lol!

Yes, I love how they try to justify this by giving an analogy: "If a nurse was trapped in an elevator with a critical patient and a Dr. used a phone to tell the nurse how to save the patient, the nurse could say that she was 'acting as a Dr.'"

Okay, if the doctor said to do some procedure and the nurse who not being a doctor messed up the procedure enough that it didn't work, who didn't save the patient, the doctor or the nurse?

So, if the WTS said that Jehovah promises Armageddon by a certain time period but it doesn't happen, who was wrong, Jehovah or the WTS?

Would you be able to scan your 1/1/89 WT for us? The copy posted on the internet looks "well studied". A cleaner copy would be appreciated!

... the nurse could say that she was 'acting as a Dr.'"

She is a nurse that is acting under direction of a Dr. Of course, she could be acting as a Dr. if she said she was a Dr.

I have always wanted to ask a dutiful dubbie to read that WT and tell me, with an honest heart, that the Society is not claiming to be a prophet.

A couple other favorites on my shelf:

    - a 1911 copy of "Daily Manna" designed to be a personal registry of birthdays

    - an original 1920 "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" booklet (Remember that the society hold that the 'Millions Now Living' assembly fulfilled one of Revelation's seven bowl outpourings. I've never seen a recantatiion of that belief, so they believe that at least one of those seven was a lie - the bowl poured out a lie.)

Wow I'd love some originals. like the Awake with the 26 sacrificed kids on front page, so sad.

How can I get any awake from before they changed the strapline about the 1914 generation?

Back in a few days, see ya.

See the 1969 Interlinear, page 1159, right hand column, first paragraph.

See also Dr. Julius R. Mantey and the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society

I don't remember that. Is that in a WTS publication somewhere? That'd be a hoot to see.
