I love the little emoticon thingumies EXCEPT for the rolling eye smilie, who really winds me up, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on.

I'm not very expressive in real life - don't wave my arms about or anything = me! The worst I do is scowl when I'm really mad.
I think I feel more free to express myself on here but also emoticons do go some way to making up for the lack of body language, facial expressions etc and thus help to avoid misunderstandings.

I'm not very animated at all in person.
I use emoticons a lot on the internet because I've studied communication and body language...I realize how much is lost in electronic communication and try to make up for it by using emoticons to enhance.
