Please do whatever you can to get your child back in school... My parents decided to home school me from 6th grade on and what it ended up boiling down to was me sitting at home teaching myself while my parents were at work. Let me tell you growing up home alone all the time and the only social contact that you have is at the meetings is NOT a good way to grow up. To this day I still get angry at my parents for it sometimes. I was an extremely good student straight A's but being put in an enviroment where I had to teach myself was not good for me at all. Im still a very good reader but thats it. My stepson who is in 9th grade is smarter than me now and it drives me crazy.

Stop. I would be happy to help in anyway possible feel free to email me. [email protected]

    Alright now Stop,

    Collaborate and listen....

(from Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby song)

Seriously, all I can say as I lack experience is that the people who I see being homeschooled really do / are missing out on alot of things.

    Do what you can.

Forgot to mention I was homeschooled for 7th grade. I really didn't learn anything... alll I did was go outside and play all day.... (oh yeah, thats the year I found porn...)

I never was a JW. Survived with one for 5 years but finally left.

Home schooling is disgusting. (And I don't want to hear about special-needs exceptions.) Home Schooling is the answer to "How do I raise a blithering idiot?" The damnable parents that want to isolate their kids so that they only have a chance to learn from their parents are blind and abusive. The hubris of thinking that children can get all they need, socially and intellectually, in such a small environment, from so few people makes me wanna wretch.

That's crazy but the divorce descree says that in case of disagreement my ex has the final say on educational and religuos issues. I only have a final say on emergency blood transfusions.

That means she has sole custody. You will need to prove it's not in the best interest of the child to be homeschooled. It will be an uphill battle. Your ex's lack of an education should help. Does she have the time to devote to your daughter? Is she a stay at home mom? Those are retorical questions. The lawyer I work for always advises clients not to agree to that type of wording in a custody agreement. It's the same as agreeing to "reasonable" or "liberal" visitation. Everything should be spelled out very clearly. One client had to take his ex wife to court because she was not allowing regular visitation, only when it suited her. To her reasonable meant whenever it was good for her. The judge did not agree and made a very detailed visitation order. He went from seeing her a few hours a week to 12 days/nights per month.

Y'all have heard my homeschooling story before. Yes, it can be a disaster, especially if the mommy/teacher really is determined to keep her little darling totally isolated without spot from the world.

Does your ex-wife realize how much time she's going to have to spend keeping track of time spent studying, if she's homeschooling under the supervision of the school district or a private school? They make you keep elaborate records! And on preparing lessons? Especially if she doesn't know math and science like the back of her hand. You can't teach what you don't understand. Anything your ex doesn't know that your daughter needs to know, she must learn herself. For your ex- wife, if she really means to educate your child, this means (in effect) going back to school again her own self.

Make this prospect look as scary as possible. Not to your daughter, but to your ex. And to the judge!

    Oh, btw, Richie,

Forgot to mention I was homeschooled for 7th grade. I really didn't learn anything... alll I did was go outside and play all day.... (oh yeah, thats the year I found porn...)
So it wasn't a total waste, then?

    Buster and Wasanelder Once,

I remember our homeschooling days very fondly. My children grew up literate; furthermore, they view learning as one of life's greatest pleasures, one that doesn't have to end. I'll be happy to rip you a new one wrestle with you on another thread, but I won't do it here because I'd like to keep this on topic.

I'm not for home schooling children, unless the school system is really bad or dangerous.

A few JW kids that I knew were home schooled (by parents that didn't have a good education to begin with) lacked social skills terribly. None went on to get a higher education.

I home schooled my children and both got into red brick universities but it definitely isn't for everyone.

My children are bright neither became JW's, they realised it was a cult before I did.
