After 9 long months of living in a shelter at the Y here in Ottawa in one tiny room ---

I have finally got a place to live.

It is small and I will have to get rid of a few things - OK a LOT of things but I will have a home again. It is a small apartment in a seniors residence. They are bending the rules to let me in. The apartment is built for people in wheelchairs. The counters in the kitchen and bathroom are all lowered. The light switches and heating controls are lowered so I can reach them from the chair. Even the stove is lowered so I don't have to stand to cook. It also has a tiny sunroom that overlooks a park.

Ottawa has the most fabulous network of bicycle paths I have ever seen in a city and I will be two blocks from one of my favorite paths along thr Ottawa River.

Ottawa also has a great transportation system that I will be very close to. I can get on about half of the city buses that have been adapted with ramps for wheelchairs and scooters. A buses-only transitway can take me from one end of the city to the other. Watch out Scully. I might make it out to where you are on my own steam one of these days. Know anyone who wants to buy a never used Barbecue?

The transit system also has a light rail system that starts about 4 blocks from where I will be living and goes all the way to the south end of the city. So now I will easily have the whole city covered.

I am hopeing to move just before or after the first of August. I'm not sure yet how long it will take to get back on-line but I hope it will be soon.

Thanks to many of you who have not forgotten me. Watch out cuz I'm coming back.

That's so wonderful. I know the feeling. Spent 9 months in the system here in Philly, at the end I'd gotten my first apartment. It's such a feeling of empowerment. I hope you can feel at home as soon as yesterday

Zippity Doo Dah! LadyLee I am so very very happy for you.

Hey, Gang, it's party at LadyLee's new playpen next month!

Seriously, I have been on friends couches myself for only 3 weeks. But I have a close friend in Seattle that after 3 years finally got into Sec8 housing and got a great little apartment for $35 a month (the government subsidezed $700) I know how she felt and can understand how you feel.

    CONGRADULATIONS.

I look forward to you being back on line on a regular basis.

    Hugs and love

    Brenda
