to a kh service just to see what it's like? Is it even permissable - would I need 'clearance' from someone? I've never been a dub and have absolutely no interest in studying with them, but I've come to know some exJws on JWD and consider many here to be friends. Perhaps I'll gain greater insight into where you are coming from.
Should I go..

That's an incredible and loving offer. However, I suggest taking tissues with you so you can cover up your laughter and disgust in the guise of a cold.

You would get greater insight which is good but beware that you don't get seduced by the sirens. At first they love bomb people so watch your step.

Of course you should go! What a fab idea.
You be sure to wear all black long flowing clothing, lots of jewellry, take a rosary with you, and get it out when they look up the scriptures (be sure to mumble LOUDLY as you finger the beads).
Have a koran with you, and hold it upside down, but look like you are reading it intently.
If anyone approaches you tell them you have 'BEEN PRAYING FOR GUIDANCE' and watch them fall over each other to get to you. Ask them if they still believe in free love and ley lines.
I wish I could come with you. There are no rules, anyone can go in, but it would be like going to a fetish club - realistically no-one new has the nuts to go, so they all know each other and newbies stand out like a sore thumb.

Now What?
There is nothing wrong with going as a 'guest' but expect some love bombing and kindergarten interrogations. However, a single meeting or even a few as an 'outsider' still won't really give you the feel as to what your ex-jw friends experienced when they were deep in the jw mindset. It's a whole life-style thing and you won't get that just going to some meetings. Really hard to fully understand how crazy it is unless you actually been into it (which I certainly don't recommend).

By all means friend, go for it! Perhaps your fragrance -- even after you are gone -- will linger.

It would be interesting to wear some sort of crucifix pin; nothing ostentatious, but something that doesn't make it look like I am am deliberately onto them, and then see how long it takes to "set me straight" with the suggestion of a bible study or something.

newbies stand out like a sore thumb.
Wondered why they always stared at me when I turned up in jeans and sweater. Still, I've never been a 'Sunday best' type.
Please, please take Greendawns advice:
beware that you don't get seduced by the sirens. At first they love bomb people so watch your step.
Like you, I'm not a JW but I started getting sucked in. It was almost too late for me - I'm still suffering some of the 'consequences' 2 years on. At least if you start feeling drawn to their beliefs, you have JWD to give you the other side. If you go, take care. -

Thank you for your replies. I think that most who go to a kh out of curiosity are probably looking for something to believe in, not having found that inexpressible 'something' elsewhere. In my case, I have discovered that place 'within' where beliefs no longer exert a foothold, because that place is my true nature. That place is a place of peace, contentment, and wholeness, and nothing outside of the infinite wholeness that I am can hold a candle to it. So I can't conceive of myself getting sucked into anything so confining and limited as the JWs. There is a curiosity, however, in the place that has spawned my JWD friends.
