JV, I thought they were your own little musicians. If they are the neightbor's kids you might try what our neighbor did....He works the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift as an R.N. at a Mental Health Facility in the area.....he sleeps from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day.......when we had a similar problem he wrote a letter asking for consideration and sent it to each and every home on the block......then when the noise continued, he knocked on the parents door and talked to them. They agreed to have their children hold off practice......on one occassion, when the parents weren't home....he called the police. Even though we don't all socialize in the neighborhood, we do try to be considerate of each other and it is reassuring to have him home during the day, as more than once he's patched up one of our kids.

Music on the streets of the African American community - isnt that where most genres of music in the western world have come from?

    is it ok?

well now....lets see, one neighbor on the side of me is no longer there, sold their house and moved away because everytime they started crap we called the cops, us and their neighbor on the other side of them.

the cops really got steamed at this 16 year olds attitude, next thing i knew the house was for sale.

i don't bother the people i leve next door to, and i don't expect to hear their rap music or any other kind so loud i can hear it with all the windows and doors closed!

once this girls guys friends (i swear she was.....aww nevermind) was playing their car radio really loud while i was in the driveway....i leaned over the fence and got their attention and told them how much like crap their radio sounded (it was all distorted and crappy because it was a crap radio.)

they apologized and turned it down.

i don't know the whole story but i think that it isnt a good idea to be outside practicing . maybe if they were good, you could have a block party, but dang you got to have lines drawn someplace.

I used to send my son's to the garage to practice playing their trumpet with the doors shut, and sometimes upstairs on the balcony, lol.

Then my youngest was in a jazz band that had their rehearsals at each of the members homes once a week so as parents we all took out turn knowing every 6 weeks or so we got it. They literally cleared out the family room and set up drums, amps and music stands and played for hours. Sometimes we left but most of the time we had to stay and chaperon because so many of the high school kids would show up, it was fun we loved it.

I'm all for kids learning an instrument and if you have the rare one who really takes to the music nurture it it's rare and pure and wonderful, consider yourself lucky to have had a part in producing such a talented kid.

Catch my own bragging here, one of 3 that I sent to the garage to practice, not bad odds eh?:

oops guess I should have read the whole thread before posting but seriously at least they aren't out doing drugs or gang banging, what's the harm with a little squeeky noise, learn to love it find the things good about it like the two I mentioned. You can always shut your windows and put in ear plugs, maybe turn up your radio or TV. He,hee don't be so crabby.

I do have earplugs in, all the windows are closed, and wouldn't you be crabby with 4 hours of sleep too? ;)

You could encourage them to join the YMCA and play THERE.....and if nothing else works, get a small window A/C or something of that nature to create "white noise" that won't disturb your sleep and WILL block outside noise.

Yes. Just make sure it's not after 8:00. But you have to be able to practice if you want to get good.
