Looks like us 'fixers' got it from our dads. Mine was a real inventor.

Remember how the downspouts on homes used to be round? My dad invented a machine that made the square stuff when others were saying it was too complicated. lol Took him the better part of a year to figure it out and then build the machine to do it, but he succeeded. I used to play in the scraps of sheet metal at the shop and the drill shavings while he worked on that and other inventions.

He also invented the "pallet notcher" and then refused to sue the thief because he was a witness and did not believe in taking people to court.

If he had been a good businessman in addition to an inventor/fixer, I'd be an heiress... lol

Fixer, definately a fixer. My sister-in-law and I were doing Trading Spaces before it ever came on TV and my ex says it's dangerous to leave me alone with my tool box, a sewing machine, hot glue gun, stapler and any kind of junk! I'm also a yard/garage sale nut! My Dad used to refinish all kinds of furniture and take two junk bikes and make one super one...every kid in the neighborhood came to our house to play on the large wooden swing set/jungle jim/ tree house (keep in mind this was in the late 50's). Like your Dad Jeannie....if only he had patented some of his ideas!

i'm a fixer, ever since i was little i loved taking things apart and putting things together. if my dad bought somethign that was assembly required both of us would put it together. My dad taught me how to work on my car and to this day that car has sentimental value. I'm deffinitly not a prissy girl but I do like to buy some things. my husband is a fixer to...our house is constantly under construction.

JB your not getting matching socks and forgeting to turn off the water are actions often found in very inteligent people whose mind is constantly involved in other thoughts.

The socks and the faucet are not important items in among the many things in your mind at the present time.

Those things that interest you or challenge you get a lot of your attention. The mundane things of life are just a minor bother best ignored.

I am somewhat that way and I have a son who has two patents who is very much as you describe.

I'm a fixer too. In houses mainly, people pay me to find solutions and fix things. If only i didn't have to do all that public relations stuff. I fix my own vehicle. Changed the injection, brakes, water pump.... There is still more stuff on it to fix

my mom is a buyer, and hated my dad for being a fixer. she always complained about that. LOL. my sister is a buyer, but my wife is a fixer too. and so we get along that way.

i think fixers and hackers (in the traditional MIT / Richard Feynman definition of the word) have much the same personality. that desire to be challenged with problems, and to actually seek problems out. these types of people relish in being wrong with a solution, because it means they're one step closer to the right solution. these types of people, are some of the most brilliant minds in history, not to say that buyers cannot be brilliant too. but, it seems these hacker/fixer types are responsible for a lot of progress, both culturally and scientifically.

    jeannie,

you are an heiress. you're a genetic heiress.
